Default Valve train noise on lift off at high revs

I'm not entirely sure that there is anything wrong but on my v3 type r with standard engine, when I lifted off the throttle in 3rd gear around 5.5k, leaving it to coast still in 3rd gear, it sounds like a boat load of tappet/lifter noise. This goes away when the revs drop. It sounds like a cross between when I got valve bouce on a ford xflow and loud injector ticking.

Is it normal on an Sti engine? The car runs and pulls fine with no other issues.

Could be the valve clearance is out of tolerance, usually you would get the tappet noise on revving the car tho.
Could be the start of bearing failure as this noise happens on decelerating.
My knocking noise was cracked Pistons which eventually one exploded

Might just be something simple tho like a loose heatshield?
Hard to say without hearing the noise.
I would strain the oil on your next change, start of bearing failure will show signs of metal in the oil.

Changed oil recently and no signs of anything. No other issues regarding the engine othe than a bit of piston slap when cold, which clears when warm completely.

If you imagine hydraulic lifter that don't pressurise it sounds like that buy only on lift off at high ish revs.

I thought the engine would have had solid lifters anyway?

Yes solid lifters,my V3 sti has under bucket shims so would think yours will be the same.
I checked my valve clearance and they were out of tolerance, took the engine out,re-shimmed to get the correct clearance back but I still had what sounded like valve train noise(I posted I video up of the noise on my thread) I continued to use the car but then one of my forged cosworth Pistons shattered,on stripping the engine I found all the Pistons to have fracture lines.
My car also had piston slap when cold.

Any chance you can post up a video/sound clip?

No, not a normal noise.
Try dipping the clutch when you lift off at that rpm and coast - is the noise still there ?
