Default Boost gauge tap dumb question

Apologies, I have searched the forums but I'm still not clear as to where to take the boost gauge tap from. Twincams or Pintos I'm fine with, but there are many pipes under the bonnet of a WRX! It's a 52 plate, here's a picture of where most people seem to recommend, but I will say I'm not clear on what this pipe does and it seems to me a tap here is the wrong side of this valve - and I'm afraid I'm not even sure what this valve is!

Would much appreciate definitive advice, tia.

There should be a spare take off point on top of your manifold with a little cap on it. Have a look there before cutting in to anything.

I'll look in daylight tomorrow, I have a recollection of seeing such a plug, but is that the correct side of the throttle butterfly?

Thank you.

Yeah that's the right sort of area. Take a photo and I'll help you out.

Ok, had a good look and can't see any blanking plug. There's only two taps into the manifold as far as I can see, that's at the front, left of centre and one on the RHS (looking from front) for the servo.

I await your advice!

Edit:
I've ruled out the servo vacuum connection, so that front tap seems favourite? I can insert the Tee without shortening the pipe I should think.

Use the DV hose, cut it and put the T piece in there.

Please excuse my ignorance - is the dump valve the one I have circled in the first picture? Subaru call it the Air Bypass Valve I believe.
