Question

Has anyone else that uses an ntlworld cable modem had problems connecting today and last night ?? I got connected this morning, downloaded mail and then the "activity" and "receive" lights went out on the cable modem.

Now it just sits there with the "send" light on. I have rebooted, flushed arp table, checked ethernet card driver which is fine and there is definitely a "link up" light on the cable modem when i connect the ethernet cable.

Looks like either a modem problem or a supply problem......

Cable modem problems are usually localized. It's working fine here, but was a nightmare a couple of weeks ago.

All I can find on their service status page is:

28 May 2002
08:44:00 Broadband Set Top Box Fault
Cuctomers in the Oldham and Norwich areas may currently be unable to access the internet through their set tob box service. This is due to a technical issue , and our engineers are working towards a resolution.

27 May 2002
22:02:00 Ntl Broadband Cable Modem Service
Broadband Cable Modem customers in Hartlepool and surrounding areas may currently be unable to access the service. This is due to a technical fault. Our engineers are aware and are working towards a resolution.

Got through and it seems that my modem has been registered on the wrong server. This has been put right by the networks specialist i spoke to.

Amusing part of the conversation was when i told him i flushed the arp table (arp -d) to see if Win2k could get the info again and he said "whats an arp table".

My cable modem fell offline last night about 10.30. Have lost internet access and tv

Gonna be phoning them later this afternoon to see what is happening. If they don't answer the phone quicker than 2 hours, I'm gonna pull their connection at Telehouse............

Tiggs - its a mare when you move !! They cannot transfer youre old account details between address, so you have to set up a new direct debit for telephone, cable modem, etc.

Only thing is, they rely on you having a crystal ball to know this. And then have the cheek to send you a bill after you havent paid the new direct debit for 2 months. And then get offended when i unload with both barrels at them
