For those sadened by the loss of Anthony Betts, you'll be pleased to know that Dear Leap - part of the Adams group is opening on June 1st.

They will be servicing as well, however in the early days they will trailer the car to their other dealership. Got the impression they are busy building at the moment.

I mentioned this last week, but some muppet chose to immediately move it to dealer enquiries. Not very helpful when it is of general interest to members.

I'm a little confused as to why Adams have chosen to resurrect the Deer Leap name after killing it off soon after they bought the dealership from Gordon. If they feel their name is strong enough, they should keep it. If not, then why not?

I have to say that, apart from their occasionally mercylessly low PX offers Adams were very good. If they hadn't tried to tuck me up on my '98 I would still be going there, instead of to Listers.

Maybe they thought that the DeerLeap name would be remembered from the past when there was no A Betts and no Oakley Beds, so the nearest dealer was miles away - Deer Leap. Doubt it though.

They haven't done much considering its supposed to open in 4 days!
I still think the workshop bit is too small.

 

Maybe it's the size of the premises that has prompted the name change. Deer Leap, for those who didn't use them, was a tiny old place, but Adams garages are generally larger and more modern. Consequently, they may feel that a small place, with minimal facilities, is not in line with their corporate image.

It makes no odds really, providing they offer decent service, but you're right, they really do need to get a move on if they're going to open shortly.

I got screwed in the changeover to Adams. My car was in for body repair with Deerleap at the time and was delivered back to me in a right royal state 6 months later by a back street garage in Dunstable. Adams of course had no connection with Deerleap. I'm over it now but screamed a lot at the time.

 

My understanding was that Adams took over the business lock stock and barrel. By using the name for the first year or so, they certainly gave that impression. If that wasn't the case then they misrepresented themselves IMHO.

That site they have taken over hasn't been very lucky for the previous owners in the past, I hope the trend stops there...

Funny you should say that. I was discussing that point with Brian (Anthony Betts, and formerly Deerleap & Adams) on Friday. Apparently, he used to work there about 20 years ago, and it was fairly successful, but there's been a sucession of dealers there in recent years. Even the Toyota dealer opposite has changed hands at least 5 times that I can think of.

However, there are very few ordinary shops there now, and it's rapidly becoming more of a specialist street. Whether that turns out to be good or bad is a different matter.
