AFAIK there is an inner core/muffler type thing (very technical-yes )
I have been told this can be removed (2 small spot welds) for some nice results.

Who has done this and does this have any adverse effects?

All things being equal, I should have mine on Friday and would like to modify my modification !

Cheers

Paul

it made mine look much better and slightly deeper sounding.I did mine by drilling small holes in the inner part on both sides of the oval, left and right, then used snips to join all the holes together, gently worked each half out with some long nose vice grips.the main thing is to have patience.I think a dremmel type tool would make the job easier.

T-uk,

Did this make the exhaust much louder, or did it just change the tone?

Thanks

Iain,
let me know what difference this makes - I might try it myself...
Do you reckon it is a reversable modification (doesn't sound like it )

I think I'll have to give this a go. I think my Scoobysport D/P, Scoobysport M/S & Magnex 6"x4" Backbox is too quiet.

I won't be doing it till the weekend though. Have you done this while the exhaust remains on the car?

Feedback on exhaust note would be appreciated.

Damian.

Damien,

How does your car fare in the MoT test what with your Scoobysport D/P, Scoobysport M/S & Magnex 6"x4"???

I have a Magnex M/S & Magnex 6"x4" but am worried about failing the MoT if I get a Scoobysport D/P....

Jamie,

It will probably fail miserably unless I can find a friendly MOT Testing station

I have an MY00 so I don't need to worry about that for another 18 months anyway. I am hoping to put back the centre section which has a small cat in, take the car for a good warm up and get the garage to check the emmissions as the first thing. Fingers crossed this will suffice and I will not have to go through the ball ache of changing the downpipe.

I have yet to see someone post on this bulletin board specifically saying they passed the MOT test for the later model Impreza's, but there won't be that many going through yet (MY99's just becoming due).

Damian.

iain,

how did you get yours out ,same way as me or a different attack method, how many times did you think "I wish I had never started",until you finished and then thought how easy it was .

I cannot actually remember if it made the car much louder, what I do know is that it was a better sound than the blitz I now have and much better than the round magnex between the two.

Cheers T-UK! Looks like everyone is going to start butchering their tailpipes

Iain how did it go and more importantly what difference did it make?

I can't wait to get mine out

Well peeps,

As you know i took out the cartridge thingy (very techy i know ) yesterday during lunch, using the same method as T-uk (work from home you see). Last night i drove to Oxford (around 50 miles round trip) and back.

The tailpipe definately looks much better looks like a 'beast' (as my girlfriends younger brother said ).

The sound, well it is louder (magnex twin exit d/p and reasonated center), and it makes more of a roar up the rev range, which is just what i wanted.

It sounds more aggresive and looks the dogs........DO IT, YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO.

Oh and yeah, there were a few stages where i wish i hadn't started, but it does seem straightforward when looking back. Just make sure you have some large, very sharp drill bits.

Oh and Jamie, i don't think it will be reversable m8

Damian,

Kept the exhaust on the car, by the time you've drilled the holes etc there is little to no hitting required.

Cheers

Question

Iain,

Did you take the exhaust off the car to do it, or manage to do it with the exhaust remaining on the car?

Damian.
