your help is needed!

my buddy has a WRX with morrettes (like mine) he has just started saying how he thinks the bug eye look is growing on him and he might sell the morrettes and put the bugs back

i need a few short one liners from you lot to make him see sense.

"you mad mad fool" would be a good example.

Fire away!

I suppose it depends on what you want. I preferred the more agressive look of the Morrettes and they produce a much better beam of light (especially with HID). Think very hard before changing back....

I'll stick with my Morettes : the original headlamps make it look like the old shape Toyota Corolla. Euuuw !

Morettes suck! Anyone who thinks they look good is a victim of good marketing. Christ, a few people out there that think Gerri Halliwell is a looker.

If he was to go to a mental hospital and say " I'm gettin rid of my Morrettes" they wouldn't even let him go home to get his slippers

Errr hardly. The only place I'd heard of them was by looking through the members gallery on this forum - I wouldn't have even considered them otherwise - they're hardly a high profile marketing campaign item.
At the end of the day its all down to personal taste - IMO, the Morettes make the new shape WRX look miles better. If you think the bugeyes look better then stick with them.

I've had no problems night driving with them, but not having used the original headlamps I don't have anything to compare them to. (except for my previous Pug 306 diesel, and they're a vast improvement over those !!) They give plenty of light even without using the front fogs.

No comment about Geri Halliwel !! :P

I think the bug eyes look better on a silver car. On anything else I think the Morettes are tastier. Mine is a silver bug eye (cmon surely u guessed) but I cant see much at night, even with the Phillips Extra Vision or whatever there called bulbs in.

Go back to the bug

Bugeyes DO grow on you and they look much better in real time than in photographs or images on screen.

And no, they are NOTHING like a Corolla or Scorpio, just compare them in the flesh

My vote goes to bug eyes or STi ones. IMHO Morettes look bad.

Any news on whether someone has figured out how to get STi lights
installed on standard WRX ? Read here on scoobynet that the height
adjuster wiring is different.

PS. Funny that everyone and their dog thinks bugs look bad but
nobody complains about Merc or Porsche lights that have very
similar shape. Hmmm, how do I get those 911 headlights into WRX.

The only plus side of the Morrettes is the amount of light they give out compared with the bug eyes, wouldn't have changed mine if they were decent headlights.

Nigel

PS: MY01 looks as much like a Corrolla as the Classic shape.

Just waiting for the STi bugs to come up as a WRX upgrade. Will suit the natural lines much better than Morrettes, which will always have something of an add-on look about them. Even with the old style Scoob- they made the indicator look out of place. (IMO).

Being the subject of Mr Tigwell's original post it is interesting to see the difference of opinion on this one. Being a new scooby owner and having inherited the car from another mate with the Morettes already fitted (....badly by Mr Tigwell....) I was initially quite pleased with the Morette look.

Having seen a lot of STi7 pics now, and a couple in the flesh, I 've just noticed that the front looks smoother and less aggressive with the OE lights. (Obviously, if you like aggressive then bug eyes aren't for you.)

Anyway I can't decide so I'm going to run the car like this for a bit..:

steady on mate- some people let their kids see this site, spare a thought...

and before anyone mentions Tims plate being a theft risk....dont bother, i think he has just fitted the best anti-theft device avalible (unless stevie Wonder boosts cars on the side)

For what it's worth my vote goes against the Morettes. The momentum that cascaded away from the new age lights was understandable, but perhaps premature. Whoever started this trend must be rubbing their hands as the sheep duly shelled out £400 plus for these gross aftermarket add-ons.
I think time will prove Subaru right in the styling they have prescribed to todays Impreza.
My prediction is that a lot of Morettes will appear in "For Sale" over the next few years.
