The horn on my new car is more of an apology than a warning, any ideas on the best solution? (I don't want something Too road-rage inducing, though.)

I wanna chang mine too

All I plan on doing is buying a "low tone" horn and adding it in parallel to the OEM horn. Its mounted just behind the grill on my '02 and the grill takes 5 seconds to unclip, just gotta get around to checking which type I need (earth switched or live switched)

Have done similar things to my other cars in the past and it always makes a big improvement

Met a chap with a P1 over the weekend with a nice loud air horn that he reckoned is an upgrade that a subaru dealer can arrange.

Just about all standard fit horns are the same now (God, I sound like an old git again....). Something to do with EC regulations stating that they can't be louder than a German policeman's fart.....

Ask friends with different cars to sound their horns, decide on one you like then either buy it from the main dealer or be sensible and get one for a fraction of the cost at a scrapyard.Takes about 2mins to swap.Remember to get both horns though as just one by itself sounds like a noddycar.

I have swapped my WRX horns for the ones out of a ford Sierra. (5quid, local scrappy) Wasn't sure about what this might do to the fuses, so fitted a new relay and 3amp wires.

Had an airhorn before, but finding space for the compressor and horns under the bonnets was a nightmare. Used the space next to the Airbox, but it was a right pain in the ****.

Sounds a lot better, I'm not embarrased to use it now

I got cut up, this morning, by a new Golf. When I finally got out of "his" way, he was kind enough to honk at me too. Nice of him really, because his honk was nice and strong

Since the horn on my Legacy is equally tinny and high-pitched, I'm thinking a replacement horn from VW is the answer. (I've had air-horns in the dim and distant past and found the compressor took the best part of a second to "wind up" )

Well, that's my ten-penn'orth anyhoo

Dan,

stupid question but how did you wire the Sierra horns up?

I've got a set off of an escort from a scrappy but the horns only have one terminal on them?? Where's the other wire go?

Mo: The ford horns run on an Earthed Circuit, and the Impreza horns on a closed circuit (i.e. two terminals, +ve and -ve). the ford horns, when mounted in a ford, site so that the "-ve" touches the body and is hence earthed, thus one terminal.

On the Sierra horns there are two small flat metal circles (about 10mm across). The one nearer to the +ve I have used as the negative terminal, simply soldered on the connector

Thumbs up

Go to your nearest halfords.they sell twin horn sets made by Hella.
I brought some about 6 months ago.
All you do is swap the horns for the original ones, that`s if you have to horns.(1 x near the battery+1 x behind the grill)
They come in red but im sure they do blue as well.
