Just bought a Samsung 42" plasma tv (HD,1080)
And noticed in the shop it was a better quality picture than the lcd's,but been watching it at home the last few nights and noticed when something or someone is moving it seems slightly blurred but when still it's crystal clear and sharp..is this what to expect??
Would it be better signing up for HD through sky,with whom im with??(but theres only 5 channels in HD,correct me if im wrong.
Any help appreciated.

 

There are a lot more than 5 Sky HD channels, probably about 15 or so at the moment.

The screen flicker annoys me too (I have a Panasonic 1080i plasma) although tends to be only when it's fast panning action on High def discs (whether HD DVD or Blu Ray, 760p or 1080i). It is better with Sky HD, much smoother.

It may improve when when everything is 1080p and 100 Hz, but I'm not convinced. Every single high def dvd/tv I've seen in the shop does it, even a full 1080p setup.

 

Crosstalk is spot on, although to be picky I think it is 18 HD channels at the mo. I have a 40" Samsung LCD 1080p and I get motion blur too, to lessen it try turning the picture sharpness down a bit. It made a difference with mine.

I found that if you change the screen settings to "movie" it stops it,

Was a pain for a few weeks and was really not happy with the tv, Now is all well!!!!

It take a couple of hours to get used to the new colours but it such a difference

Cheers guys,just switched it to "movie" and its an improvement.

 

Yep just switched mine to movie, much better now.

 

A couple of points, first off all TVs are setup out of the box to look good in a brightly lit store with all the settings far to high resulting a rubbish picture in a home environment (and reduced life!)

second, a plasma takes 100-200 hours of use to bed in

finally it is definitely worth spending time setting up your telly after the bedding in time, this is a good place to start:

flickering occurs because the engine with in your tv cant process the signal(picture)quick enough when the image is moving.this is my you pay loads of money for top end tvs as the processing power engines are very fast.

 

As an extra, most TVs in shops are set to "vivid" or "extra bright" to make them stand out in the stores against the strip lighting that most have. At home they should be set to normal so that you get a true picture - this may initially make them look duller, but actually in time you will see that actually this is the better picture.
