Default Grinning new owner needs advice

Hi all, just got me an '02 WRX wagon and I am loving it. Brings the fun back into driving, even just down to the shops! Am looking forward to joining in with the community here.

Unusually it has a half leather/half suede interior - does anyone know if this is standard or aftermarket?

I have been recommended to use a place in Colchester for servicing etc, Scoobie Specials. Does anyone know of anywhere in Ipswich?

I am also wondering what mod to do first - I am not going for huge bhp or anything crazy, but as the car is original and sound, I would like ot up things a little bit but keep it legal for the MoT.

So, what was your first mod?

welcome!

Mine was a new panel air filter - big time, I know! lol ;OP

If yuo decide to de-cat it then you need to be careful about MOT passing on emissions etc.

Do you knwo what bhp you wanna get too ?

first mod must be de-tango the lights!!!!! Do a search on how to do it. Performance wise, a lot of the wrx lads get them upto 265 sort of power quite easily. Theres loads of material on here mate, do a search.

If you've still got the original twin pipe exhaust, you MUST replace it with a bigger single pipe. Won't make the car any faster, but it will sound like a real Scoob. The Prodrive backbox is easy to find on ebay and looks good. Not too loud either.

You should also consider an uprated rear anti-roll bar and drop links which will improve the handling no end.

First mod should be a genuine subaru roof rack. And it just so happens I have one for sale. lol.

Exhaust mate, then hi flow cat. Then goodbye the rest of your money.

Thanks for the tips - the de-Tango looks so much better, it will be job Number 1. I might buy second hand lights as the front is being resprayed (due to stone chips) so I can get the sprayer to refit

It still has the twinpipe back box so have been looking around for ideas on exhaust. Just to confirm, and to keep MoT legal, I can either..

1. fit a back box
OR
2. fit a cat-back system
OR
3. fit a sports cat

I think after that, the front wing reflectors will have to go and be replaced with vents, a mesh grille and then start looking at the rear lights... oh and get some letters to add F U S on the end of Subaru lol

Can't wait to get it a bit more personal

Hi

Xtreme Scoobies - Tel: 01245 363623 are not that far from you.

I have used them for several years. Highly recommended.

Your car will have 3 cats as standard. 1 in the downpipe, 1 in the up-pipe to the turbo and 1 just after the downpipe. As long as you have a cat (std or sports) in the downpipe, you can remove the other 2 and still be MoT legal.

The downpipe and up-pipe cats are 2-3 hr jobs by an experienced mechanic, but will give the most improvement, but you will need a remap for max effect (i.e. £££). The lower cat is a half hour job, but won't give you many more horses on its own.

Just avoid the Lexus lights

Welcome anyway and enjoy

Welcome Subarufus - I'm a 2002 (saloon) owner too. I think (no promises) that I have a TSL Group N twin-pipe backbox up in the loft. Yes it is twin-pipe (two apertures slightly larger than the standard look), but it'll give your scoob the all-important throaty burble.

If you fancy it, you can have it for free if you can pick up (and once I've confirmed that I still have it).

I ran it for a year or so then swapped to a mighty Firestorm (even louder), but very much liked it.

Drop me a PM if you are interested
