Apoogies if this has already been posted....

Just saw a racer n a Mondeo get pulled by an unmarked BIKE.

First time I have seen one round these parts. FYI it was a burgundy coloured bike (didn't spot the make), police officer wearing orange jacket (unmarked) and black lid.

At great risk of getting flamed I am gonna propose that this is a good idea. Why...??

Because firstly it was in a residential area where kids walk to and from school, limit 30mph but this t0sser was doing at least 55.
Secondly he had to stop, get out, produce docs etc and have a bollo**ing in the freezing cold while his missus was fuming in the car, on top of his ticket. IMHO more effective than a ticket through the post from a fixed camera.

Personaly I would rather see the budget spent on this type of policing ie targeted in areas where it really is inappropriate to drive fast rather than a fixed unit where everyone local knows where it is. (usually where there is no obvious reason for siting it there

Houseing estates & schools should be 20 MPH

A roads when safe should be 80
Motorways 90

 

Thats about right DJ. What time because I think I saw this bike on a section of the M3.

Seriously, near schools, housing estates etc are a good use of such resources by the boys with pointed heads...

 

Coming back from Runcorn today up the Express way were it goes to single lane for the locals there was a silver WRX pulled up on the side of the road with a Maroon unmarked police bike behind it.

The problem with a posted speed limit is that you'd continue to get people constantly checking their speedo to ensure they are not just 3MPH over the limit (Especially with the recently published proposals regarding motoring offences)

They should be watching for hazards not trying to maintain arbitrarily imposed speed limits.

In a built up area 5 MPH may be too fast if there are lots of hazards about. At 2am, 40mph might be perfectly permissible.
