Speedline Super Turismo Wheels - Refurb Required
I'm hoping for some help here please!
I'm struggling to get the problem that I currently have, solved, and I really could benefit from the experience of other forum members.
I inherited my other half's 1997 Impreza Turbo a couple of years ago. Inherited because Scooby's been with us from new, but has been my other half's car. She decided she wanted a new car a couple of years ago and I was faced with a choice - either keep the Seat Cupra that I owned and the problems it had, or keep Scooby and the problems that it had - a few minor things and a set of problems brewing with the wheels...
I went for Scooby. The car still goes like snot off a stick, the arrogance of other drivers who decide to "have a go", especially when they see it's a "P-reg" car and therefore OLD, never ceases to amaze me! Anyway, the condition of the wheels has finally come to that point where something needs to be done.
The wheels are Speedline Super Turismo and they've been on the car since May 1997 (i.e. new, fitted by Andrew Burt Subaru at the time). They're six spoke, standard silver finish, 16", Prodrive centre caps. Basically the wheels are intact, no rim damage, dents, buckling etc but the lacquer has lifted and in some places it has now gone altogether - that's a very recent development and they won't last through next winter with the alloy exposed.
The wheels are fitted with Toyo Proxes T1-R 205/50. Sadly (and we've learnt this through experience, though too late for these alloys) that wheel cleaner is a very bad idea. Regardless of which brand is printed on the label on the spray bottle it seems!
Anyway, I took Scooby to a place in Brownhills (am I allowed to name names here?) and I was told "You won't see that colour again - they're powder coated". I was offered a choice of either lacquered battleship grey or bling-silver - which looks great on the local youth's chavved-up Saxo but not on my Scooby.
So, is that my choice? Or can I get them restored to (or very close to) their original finish?
I'm open to offers and suggestions. I can't run to a new set of wheels and I'm not sure I could get hold of a set anyway.
Help - please??????
