My Staffie gets attacked by vertually every dog he comes across, yet the owners usually have a go at me because I'm the one with the "Dangerous " dog

 

Yes.

I could train a poodle to attack on command.
I could train a Labrador to attack on command.

The dog isn't the problem, the way it's trained/brought up is.

Know the breed before you make assumptions.

 

I know the copper who was dealing with that last night, he said it was one of the worst jobs he has had to deal with. I feel sorry for the girl and her family because she was in a hell of a state. There is possible jail time coming for the owner

Not sure just what this thread will achieve except to show another child has been injured by another dog - for whatever reason, bad dog, bad owners, etc and i am sure the usual theories will get trotted out - along with a few infractions

 

C'mon people!! Have all the dogs got together over the past few months and said "Let's bite the **** out of people this year"

The issue is that there are many dumb people in the world. With the right training many of these animals will be safe. Under the current rules there is no requirement for people to prove that they have the right training. That is what is wrong.

There should be a licensing scheme for all dangerous dogs where owners have to prove that they can cope with them (just like people have to get driving licenses).

If that solves the problem, then great. If not, then the dogs that are physically strong enough to do these things just have to be banned.

 

Waste of time, just get a staffie - you wont need to train it at all.

 

Of course training a dog helps in lots of situations BUT it's the 'conditioning' already decent dogs are receiving from the uneducated. Those very people never had training of their own by decent parents.

In a nutshell, dogs like humans are fine to start with in decent, loving environments.

As said above, a dangerous dog is made, not born and that's where the difficulty lies when determining dangerous dogs.

 

The whole point is, a little girl was seriously injured. That is a fact. I think that is a very bad thing to happen. I thought that dogs were supposed to be muzzled these days, or certain types of dog at least.

Can anyone actually suggest a way to protect innocent people from these sorts of attacks though?

End of the day, **** happens, its bad for the little girl but its just another story. I bet more kids are bitten by Westies (West Highland Terriers, not the blacks from West Indies) just the papers dont report it because a paper cut did more damage.

That is the POINT....no one is saying only one type of dog bites, we are saying THESE dogs do more harm.

There IS an issue around the likelihood of one dog biting over another, based on the nature of that dog - but i cant be bothered with that beyond saying take a wolf pup, raise it as a house dog then let your kids play with it. After all, you raised it, it'll be fine

How come its more often then not the pit bull breed that are responsible for these attacks ? Because there is a high percentage of scumbags that own this type of dog maybe ? I dont think thats so, Where im from every scumbag in the area has a boxer dog ( including me ) yet there hasent been one attack that ive heard about. So im putting it down to the type of dog rather then just the owner and think they should all be destroyed.
