I hope he has to retake his test
It appears he was banned for speeding not the deafness or lack of eye unless i am missing something.
His excuses are laughable, new car reading the rev counter instead of the speedo, stereo up loud due to his deafness.
Best he takes the bus or train in future as he looks like an accident waiting to happen with some unsuspecting innocent bystander is likely to suffer.

What I can't understand is even if he was looking at the rev counter by 'mistake', how after all his years of driving, could he not just tell he was travelling at 88mph rather than 50?
Once you have adjusted to vision with one eye you can drive perfectly safely. Can't see how the deafness is such an important factor these days. It all a matter of degree really really as to how deaf he is.
If he has to take a test then all will be revealed with regard to whether he is safe to drive.

There should be compulsory driving test for the aged.
Over 60's every 2 years and over 70's every year.
It's old folk on the road that are more dangerous than anyone else. Mumbling & trundling along.
Yes, i'll be old one day and i've no objections to taking a test more frequently so i'm not causing bloody havoc on the roads.

I can't believe no ones mentioned the trailer, im sure if he was doing 88mph he would have felt (or seen in the mirror) the trailer swaying about behind him. In effect he was doing double the legal speed limit, and should be banned for a lot longer.

Depth perception can be attained after a suitable time of seeing with one eye. I can't remember the official time you have to wait before you are cinsidered safe to drive with on eye.
