i've treat myself to a 360 for xmas and would like to know what games are must haves? i've got forza 2, project goth 4 and halo 3 they came with the console, now i have my eye on call of duty 4, and like the look of Ace Combat 6(does it play as good as it looks? ) i'm not into the football games as i'm cr@p at them but like racing and shooting stuff

 

darkness, GOW, Bioshock, Oblivion if you like rpg.

Ace Combat has a demo downloadable, as do a lot of games so you can always try before you buy once you're online, also for the above games and any other older games consider ebay or other part-ex stores or online rental, you should get some good deals.

COD4 seems to be a winner with everyone so i doubt you'll be disappointed

spectrum48k posted a game of the year poll thread last week so take a look there, altho most people said cod4 which you've already mentioned

flatout ultimate carnage was good for some racing/bashing fun

 

If you buy COD 4 play it online as that is where it excels (offline is too short).

Ace Combat 6 is awesome imo and plays very well .

I prefer Rainbow 6 Vegas to CoD4 online but the gfx are very good in CoD. Too short and not that hard, I've got the max 1000 points for it allready.
Problem with R6V is that people are drifting away from it now I guess...

 

cod 4 is game of year for me, with forza 2 runner up (both online, of course)

 

There is a sequel out first quarter next year (allegedley)
Problem with rainbow 6 online is the ****ty spawning points which mean people can camp there picking up easy kills.

Arcade also has some goodies - Uno & Worms HD for starters.

 

And the way the game handles the terrorists on-line when playing terrorist hunts: spawning behind you, shooting round corners or through walls - and my pet hate is the SPAS in the hands of the terrorist becomes as accurate as a sniper rifle and they can kill you by shooting it at the floor !

Still a great game though.

looks like call of duty 4 is a must then! i've played COD2 quite a bit on a mates 360 and enjoy that.
i've also played GOW and wasn't that keen on it. looks like ace combat 6 might be worth a demo before i buy

 

Crackdown - I love that game.

Although nobody else has suggested

It is a bit old now (so should be easy to pick up second hand)

 

dohh keep forgetting to pick up a copy of ace combat 6, when was it released?

 

It was mentioned a few times in game of the year thread, excellent game, seriously under rated, just a pity the single player was so short

 

Not as short as most peoples game of the year COD4 (and in some ways more entertaining)

 

As another outsider, I'll add Just Cause.

The missions can get rather repetitive, but taking a gyrocoptor high up into the air, jumping out and then skydiving for five minutes whilst looking down on the whole island as some really good accompanying music plays is well worth the tenner it costs these days.

 

Just Cause is another under-rated gem - I'm currently playing Crackdown, which took some getting into but its no where near as good as JC.

Finished the main campaign on Crackdown last night, but I'm unsure whether to continue as there's still 840 G's unaccounted for but don't know if I can be bothered looking for about 270 secret orbs etc...can't complain though, only paid £9 for it.

For cheapo games try eBay, thats where I got Just Cause from, bought it cos there was a little cash left in my paypal account and it was dirt cheap - turned out to be one of the best games I've played on the 360 - huge game world, go where you want, do what you want - loads to keep you occupied.

 

This is the biggest reason why I'll not buy a PS3 just yet! Over the last few months there has been title after title released on the XBox which are top must have games. Released only very recently are Bioshock, The Orange Box, PGR4, Halo 3, Assassins Creed and Call of Duty 4, all must have games.

I've found I just haven't got enough time to play them all, I bought Halo 3 on release day and still not got round to playing it!

 

You are not missing that much - if this was a "biggest dissapointment games of 2007" sorry to say Halo 3 would be top.

 

opinion is split over Halo3 but it's by no means a bad or dissapointing game. More of the same yes ,but not bad.

 

single player was average to say the least, but the online play was a pleasant surprise, should be even better when the new map packs are released.

 

3 new maps due Tuesday - with another 4 early next year.

I've only just got Halo 3 - I do actually think the single player is probably better than Halo 2; but the online seems to be full of the same whining little kids that all online shooters seem to be. Going back onto Forza 2 online is a welcome relief!

 

Halo 3 maps now available, not sure if 800 points is worth it tho

 

Guitar Hero III

 

I played Assassins Creed for way too much time this week, highly recommended.

 

I played and finished Assassins creed, but didn't enjoy it much. The gameplay was far too simplistic, the action repetitive, and the story was rubbish. Very strange ending as well.

Guitar Hero III rocks, although some of the song choices were a bit odd. My fave of the year has to be Bioshock. The only game I played this year that I wanted more after I finished it...

 

I will vouch for assassins creed, thoroughly enjoying it. CoD4 another good game but like said, short campaign and Halo3, well what more can be said about this franchise

 

Surprise game of the year for me has to go to Medal Of Honor Airborne.Good campaign mode,but online is good very good I just cant stop playing it
