9005 (sometimes called HB3) for main beam or H1 for dip.

Don't bother with those so called xenon super dooper performance rubbish on ebay.

Try these for dip:

A pair of H1 Halogen Silverstar Car Headlamp Bulb - Now Free Delivery from LCD projector lamps, bulbs and lamps. (http://www.aalighting.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=4509)

For main beam Osram don't do the Silverstar, Sylvania is same company but different name. Try to find those in 9005 or HB3 if you can. I had to get mine from the USA.

Halfords do super brilliance H1 which are very good, more importantly they are BOGOF (buy one get one free), so £15 for 2.

Halfords bulbs are top-notch at the moment, even better with BOGOF. They are made by GE, of "Megalight" fame, and the ones in the gold boxes are 50% uprated.

fancy these as well.

does anyone know if you have to take the whole headlamp unit out to replace the bulbs, or can you just unscrew from the unit in place? ta

No you don't need to take it out except unless you want to change the sidelights. You don't have much room to change them so be warned of scraped knuckles and possibly some swearing!

just had a look - a bit tight, understatement!

I can hardly even get my fingers onto the offside bulb, as the bonnet catch gets in my way!

do the fittings just unscrew?

You have to turn the plastic waterproof bits and then they will pull off. You might have the wires for the other lights tucked along the side which makes them very difficult to move. I'm sure the instructions are shown in the car's handbook.
