Question

Posting in here to try and find anyone local

I have a sti 98 type R in need of an exhaust !! Anyone got an OEM system they don't want ?? Or anything with a cat that will fit !
Alternatively, does anyone know if you can tweak anything to lower the CO count enough to pass the MOT emissions test ?? (it's reading 0.8, and should be under 0.3).
Cheers
Dave

If it's a jap import, then I didn't think you had to meet the emissions test ?

I could be wrong, but someone more knowledgable than I should be able to confirm/deny ...

Andrew.

Andrews correct, it doesnt get a cat test because its not an official UK car and hence not on the database built into their emissions tester.

If it aint a 'turbo 2000' model then they cant fail it for emissions.

kart man,

as earlier posts have stated, if its an import then there is no data for the emissions to be compared against so they dont do an emissions test . just go into any garage (maybe better to phone first)and if they know anything about jap cars they will be aware of this. this is what i did 2 mths ago, no probs (and my car is a british model !!)and i have a full cat-less exhaust

I've got a spare downpipe with Cat (courtesy of another Scottish member ) sitting in my garage that you could borrow to help get you through the emissions tests, but it's unlikely you would need it, as the Type-R should be tested for the same levels as an Impreza Turbo 2000.

I have heard of some garages which have access to a "special" mid-section, which consists of a series of Cats welded together with the necessary flanges etc required to fit an Impreza. It's much easier to replace a mid section (10 mins) than the downpipe.

Thumbs up

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'm left with 3 options and it's down to me to decide now I guess !!

1 - Find a garage who doesn't test the emissions as it's an import (no luck on this one yet, but I've only tried 3).

2 - Someone's offered me a complete system for £50 to put on for MOT's (or maybe just the mid section if I can get away with it )

3 - The garage that does my servicing has offered to fit a catted exhaust for the MOT, then take it off again (just charging me the time). They keep one just for this reason.

FYI..I posted the same question on the drivetrain/exhaust section and got these answers...

Oh, and thanks for the offer JohnS, much appreciated. Hopefully won't need it, but I'll keep it in reserve if you don't mind .
