Hi
My 99 UK Wagon clunks from nearside rear when going slowly over bumps.
I was convinced it was something in the boot at first - but have checked all usual suspects (jack included). I also jacked car up and checked for wheel play - but all ok. All looks normal in terms of spring and all them metal arms etc. Does not clunk by bouncing the car when stationary.
Whats going on - its beginning to bug me.
Help really appreciated.

I had same noise from mine and it turned out to be the bolts in the wishbone where loose and ready for coming out of position! very annoying noise.
Have a check of the bolts or check the rubbers arent worn and needing replaced.

Ok, will check bolts - not sure what the wish bone is - does it look like one you get out of a chicken? Do I have to unbolt the bits around the rubber things to see if they are worn? If so could I risk a major balls up?

The symptoms sound exactly like mine (newage sti).

If it is, its the struts. Mine are getting replaced in 2 weeks for the second time.

However, I didn't think this was a problem on anything other than a newage sti....

It is the left rear strut! Will replace back pair. Can buy a pair of new (non genuine) for £120.00. Am I been foolish by not using a genuine part here - or does it not really matter too much?

The originals are made by KYB. I believe you can buy these from a lot of motor factors.
