Im not wanting to enter into a debate, nor take anything away from your car, but please check the current prices, you will not get anywhere near that for the car, Im very sorry.

Best of luck in selling,

Rgds

ok ok perhaps a little optimistic, but according to the expert advice of our very own Pete Croney, he reckoned £7500 - £8000 was a reasonable price to ask, but then he`s seen the car, and done the work on it, also has 12 months MOT which i forgot to add

Thanks thats encouraging, as you say i dont want to give it away but i do want to sell it quickly, one of the first new sti`s awaits! as i say i`m only selling it for what Sir Croney told me too, he knows the car, and therefore has a better idea than me and most others as to what it should be up for, thanks duke

Unfortunately its got absolutely nothing to do with the perceived "worth" of the car, its got to do with what you will get for it; therefore its "worth" in the current market and that truth is, as the man says circa £6k, £500 either way (Id hope on higher side).

Feel free to advertise it at £8k but you will not sell it, certainly not here, simple, sorry.

Very similar spec cars have gone for between £5500 and £6000 so if you need to sell, be prepared to accept the hit.

Im not quite sure where "The Subaru Impreza in any form has retained it's value more than any car in the market place." argument comes from, certainly not the feeling echoed around this BBS. Imprezas more than many marques have slumped of late, thats not opinion, thats fact and a great shame it is. With scares about imports and spiraling insurance/petrol to blame in no small part. Nobody is disputing the vfm of the Impreza.

Hold out for what you can, but like Ive said, if you need to sell, be prepared......thats all were saying.

Rich

Having a similar situation trying to sell mine when I was gunning for that price - now at £7,200 if anyone's interested - let me know - advertised under WRX requires new home.

Good luck B!

Clarification......., just grab the last 12 editions of Glasses Guide, you will see that Impreza's have actually retained their value exceptionally well. JD Power survey's for the last 3yrs also show that Subaru in general are a top force in the motoring world.

Again, if people want such cars hold out for the best price

VW in the UK is a prime example, Golf's etc are always expensive by comparison to other marque's. It's because dealers do not give them away. The 'knock on' is a better retained value for a private owner. Just check out the depreciation difference between Golf's and Focus's, it say's it all.

Thank's to "Trade Center" cheap deals, most run of the mill cars are worthless in a few years. ie 'T'99 2.0 Mondeo Ghia 'X' @ £6250 I jest not.

Good luck,

Dave

Dare I ask if they're around your price range why you're not going for them as they're such a 'good' deal. Come on, we both know that they're that price cos they're shabby and not looked after - whereas mine is well looked after, regularly serviced, and loaded with toys....*:-)

Cool

Benners,

Stick 2 u r guns m8, u r last question summed it up If buyers expect 2 pay **** money then they`ll get a toilet.
(flamesuit on)
As any1 who`s played the game knows the guides r no bible, and any1 who takes them as gospel is the kinda sucker that causes devaluation. Get a grip peebs.

(double asbestos lined flamesuit on)
Richie, 1 of my mates sold his very similar car (a good clean example, similar year / higher milage) a few months back
for a lot closer to £9k, less than 10 miles from where we u are .

Good luck with it Benners

Pete

And I sold one for just over 6k a little over a year ago - and before you say it, it wasnt a "toilet" if you know anyone in the area who saw the car, they will confirm that

The truth is, our man still has the car and as much as we would all like them to go for sensible money, the advice has been to be realistic. Im not saying dont stick to your guns, Im saying the market has slumped irrespective of the guides and getting good money for the early cars (and to a degree most Imprezas now) is a good deal harder than it was a couple of years ago.

Anyway, Ive rambled on enough, the thread is getting further and further away from the actual reason it was posted, good luck selling Benners.

one of the reasons for the thread being so far back, is because although i appreciate the advice, the price war debate would have been better put on the part of the website for discussion and peoples opinions, i.e. scoobynet general rather than my advert thread, the advice is welcome great, but next time don't use my ad as a disscusion board or to talk to your mates about a subject. Thanks for your help richie but i help feeling geography will play a tiny part even if its £1k things down here in the south east are a hell of alot more expensive than those up in scotland, from houses to cars to anything else, being a truck driver a see the country, so i know this is true , any way thanks but the truth is i still haven`t sold it so perhaps i will have to give it away! what about £7/7500 as a start

7-7500 is way more realistic. Nobody is talking about giving it away, furthermore, in answer to your point about geography........no, sorry, I sold the car in the midlands.

If you also read back you will see my opening statement was to avoid taking this off track and take anything away from your advert, the intention, as many has been to offer advice, not argument.

May I suggest you readvertise the car with this new price, but I am sure, people will inevitably discuss it, just look at most of the For Sale posts, sooner or later they end up as a discussion to a degree.

Anyway, Ive said my lot, you've obviously made your mind up, good luck getting it sold.

Regards Rich

rich i do fully appreciate your advice, and you are correct about the pricing i know, being involved in scoobynet like you are your bound too i just hoped that your intial advice and my reply would have been all, not for every one else to join in too. i love scoobies and the drive from one is the best from any car, i'm not mechanical or car orientated in any other way which is why i asked pete croney for a price and thats why i appreciate your help too, just want to get it sold for as much as poss, and i do belive it should sell for more than a normal wrx, its immaculate, any way all this talk how about you buying it, what do you reckon?!

I'm not argumentitive being a truck driver you can't be, thanks for all your advice i`ll leave this ad to dissapear into days gone and re-advertise tomorrow or in a few days, its also going in the sidc mag and auto trader and japanese performance, just hope they have changed the price from the old ad like i asked them. scoobynet is excellant for selling things and i can't belive the amount of views adverts get, thanks

also can you blame me for wanting to get as much as poss for this immaculate car, you can't get a decent mini cooper for less than £6K now!

Hi Benners, interesting debate possible here.

The Subaru Impreza in any form has retained it's value more than any car in the market place. Stick to your guns. Dont give it away.

Hold out for the best possible price you can, let's face it, there is nothing around that is better vfm. If everyone gave them away cheaply all we'd end up with depreciating assets and see them driven around only by potless *******.

£7500-8000 for a good example is still realistic. (South of Hadrians Wall) £8500 is pushing it though.

Dukey
