Default PC GAMES? Anything good to play on my new laptop...

I have just purchased a Dell XPS M1210 laptop 2.0ghz core 2 duo, 2gb ram and 256mb nvidia graphics card, what sort of games can I play?

I havn't played PC games for about 15 years so I am a bit behind with the times! I have been playing Gears of war on my 360 for the last 6 months and before that other numerous similar games (basically guns and killing people).

What can I buy for my new PC that will keep me entertained on my next long trip to the far east and back? (some eager floor sweeper nabbed my PSP when i put it on the floor in Jakarta airport but I didnt really like it anyway!)

They dont have to be the latest games, just something thats easy to start playing when ever I have a little spare time (I dont want to learn hundreds of keyboard commands) also will i need a control pad or joystick? or do you just use the mouse and keyboard???

Any help appreciated!

Top of my list would be S T A L K E R, and some of the latter command & conquer series.

World of Warcraft - don't start this unless you have hours upon hours to kill

Looking at my work mates who have this game, do not start this unless you are prepared to forfeit your life

I'd avoid Half Life 2 and World of Warcraft, both need Internet connectivity. (HL2 says it doesn'y but I've never got it to work without Steam connecting)

You can disable steam to play HL 2 without going online

my best game is Battlefield 2142

another title to keep your eye out for is world in conflict - im currently playing the beta and it seems good so far

Laptop was £850, has all the toys and longlife battery webcam etc

Very light (less than 2kg) and will be great for lugging on and off planes.
