Default New Vauxhall VXR/Monaro

4 doors, 414 BHP, now available with autobox, £35k

TG tonight reckoned there is a supercharger kit that raises power to 500 BHP! Does anybody know if this a warrantied upgrade from Vauxhall?

According to the VXRacing site the supercharged version will follow the VXR8

Not a Monaro at all, it's a rebadged HSV Clubsport R8

Britain unveils its rebadged HSV Commodore - News - Motoring - theage.com.au

"Dynamically, this is where the car has surprised. The steering is excellent, the brakes are exceptional, and the ride and handling is very good. Here at Vauxhall, we have driven all of the BMW 5-Series models, as well as Audi A6s and Mercedes E-Classes, and the HSV is better in some areas than those, if not quite in others.

"The mechanical side of the car is easily better than the 5-Series's on a number of levels."
Here are some details to drool over

HSV - E series

I'd be fairly confident that this would destroy anything in the BMW/Audi range apart from the M5 and RS6.

I reckon it would struggle to post a time quicker than the RS4 round the 'ring.

The upcoming RS5 and RS6 it is no comparison to.

Good to see you are still making sweeping statements about the performance of cars you have either never stepped into as a passenger or driver, or cars that nobody has seen or reviewed (as they don't actually exist yet) on a track you have never been to see let alone driven on.

Keep up the drivel AL.

And of course, when it comes to £35k Audi's there's hundreds of them will beat it in all performance departments.

I mean for that money, you could get a 3.2FSI A6 quattro with a whole 250bhp and 0-60 in 7.1 seconds - unless you want any options (metalic paint, anything but basic cloth upholstery etc being extra cost options) Although it would probably only be the 210bhp 2.8 non quattro if you want to spend the same money and get the same equipment as the Vauxhall (Holden) will have as standard. And everyone knows a standard A6 3.2 quattro will lap the 'ring in under 7 minutes, don't they?

Deep,

I've been living in Sydney for the last 6 mths now and ever since the HSV supersaloon came out the Australian press go on and on about how much better it is compared to the German equivalents. They especially target the M5!

Only seen one on the road, so even the Aussie's haven't been fooled by it.

Nontheless a great second hand buy for sure. Shame about the Vauxhall interior.

And mine, I had a 5.7 Monaro which was awesome but 4 doors - its as practical as a scooby/evo !!! you don't get much of an Audi or BMW for the same money - bargain or what the supercharger kits are cheap as chips too.

Must be me that thinks it looks like a dated pile of poo.

So if its £15k in a couple of years trime, I would rather have the BMW or Audi and have something with a rock solid residual. And a badge to match.

I don't think they should call it a Monaro at all. Too far different to the original.

If badge's and residuals are your thing then so be it, I love the idea of cheap practical performance, the scooby falls right into this zone too, and thats ugly as sin !

PS its not called a Monaro, its a VXR8

The best thing about the is the price i don't think you could buy anything new with the spec (although i stand to be corrected )
And how does it look dated?

Looks like my criteria are differnet from yours

I want an affordable 300hp/ton rwd 4 door that handles well and doesn't break down. Sod image and the like, I don't look at / fondle the interior whilst I'm driving

After 3 years we should know about the reliability and there should be a few suspension / engine packages available.

Badge means nothing to me personally. You'd have to get something very old in Audi or BMW to match the performance.

Just to add : no-one looks twice at Audis or BMWs, even the M5 and RS6s. You'd actually get more looks and respect driving this IMO.

A quick scout around seems to throw up the "Lumina Coupe" and "Pontiac GTO" for the European / LHD version of the Monaro. Could do a search on those.

Indeed, although there is an element of "correctness" about AudiLover's comment

Likewise, I suppose, if you buy a car based upon getting respect and looks from others your motive may be questionable

People buy audi's because they are the best thing out there. Simple as that.

They buy them because they are smug, middle class and a bunch of sheep. Even the Mondeo is better than most of the Audi range.
