Naughty naughty.
If you are the owner and main driver, then you are NOT insured.

Well thats bull****... my mum has full protected no claims, no points or accidents. I'm a year older than you and live in a really good area postcode and they wont insure at anywhere near that. In fact... they can't even quote Endsleigh don't underwrite their own deals. I'm with them at the moment. I'd be interested to see if the NCB are protected if you were quoted online

well I'd read the T's and C's carefully because although you used protected no claims to get the quote, they probably aren't protected on the policy because not only are you 18, but the car is jap spec, modified and an impreza...

Perfect example of a fronted policy. Insurance companies love turning down claims for these. That way they take your £1800 and refuse to pay out your claim as its not in your name.

Technically if your mum isnt the owner then she has "no insurable interest" in the vehicle. Essentially its no different to me trying to insure any random persons car for them.

Trust me on this as i'm a manager in an insurance company. I turn these type of policies down everyday when customers try it.

Its a gamble as you do have the cert with your name but i guarantee if you prang it your in for a rough ride and the financial services authority prob wont touch it if your claims repudiated as it would be for underwriting reasons.

Good LUCK!!! - Nice colour car though.

The car was bought in his mums name, his mum is the real owner of the car, as it says on the V5. Therefore the car owner is correct on the insurance docs, and the v5, so he is winning on that front.

Also about the main driver fact, there is no way to tell who is the main driver on an insurance policey, its fact.

Being an insurance manager yourself, how do you find out who is the main driver of the car? I would like to know that, as to my knowledge, there is no way to proove it - I could be wrong though!

I have looked into this very deeply, I am also a young driver, and am insured on my mothers insurance, with her no claims bonus. She has owned all the cars legally and officially, but I drive them sometimes, there is no way to know I am the main driver, or her!

As to the mods, that does void the insurance policy yes, but depending on surveyor/insurer, it might not affect it.

There would be an element of statistical analysis behind the decision as to who was the main user.

Take this car for example there is not many "MumS" that would use this as a daily run around. NOt to say that there will be none but looking at a policy for a scoob with son and mum on it - it would become more likely to be the sons main use.

Similarly if this was a 1.2 yaris etc then it would be more probable it would be the mothers car. If this proves inconclusive then the decision is made by the loss adjustors from the exploratory questions they use when visiting the ph.

There is so much that goes into the pot as well as i guess a gut feeling on the part of the loss adjustor when viewing the car. You are right though there is no definitive way to prove although its not unlikely they could speak to neighbours or any people in the aforementioned car to see who uses it most.

Just detective work that goes into it.

Hope this kinda answers it for you.
