Any folks out there using a TFT Monitor for the XBOX360 as well as the PC?

I tried a 24" Widescreen Monitor and the picture quality from the XBOX360 is pants compared to my existing cheapo LCD widescreen 26" TV I was using before (which was connected to the PC as well).

I can only assume this is because the native res of the monitor is 1980 x 1280 (or whatever it is) and the cheapo TV has a native res of 1280x720 which matches the output of the xbox360 exactly in 720p mode.

If this is the case, I suggest people take note when trying to find a screen to fit both bills for PC and Console.

I actually looked to get higher res for the PC, but it looks like that sevearly knackers in the XBOX pic.

With people like Sony increasing resolutions of normal LCD TV's, I wonder if the viewing public realise the problems this causes with picture quality when giving it a source that is not processed output wise to that native res... Mmmmmm...... unless I have totally missed something.

Because of the way lcd screens work, they only really look decent at their native resolution. So a nice high resolution screen for the pc will very likely look "pants" when the much lower resolution hd output is sent to it from the 360 (or any other hd device)...

(which is why I've got a 42" plasma for the 360, and 21" lcd for the pc)

 

I just wonder if others are aware of this when buying newer LCD's (whether that be a TV or Monitor) for different use.

All this HD stuff is a total joke if you ask me.

Looks like I will have to put up with the 1280 x 720 res on my PC and stick with my other 26" LCD TV for PC/XBOX360 use. lol

Will be a total ball of crap come the PS3 with them flogging the 1080p output..... I can just see it, people go out and buy a new 1080 native res screen only to find the PS3 only has 3 games capable of running that res and everything else they connect to it looks crap as it will all be expected a 720 res.

Xbox 360 is about to be upgraded in the coming update to support 1080p - so its ready in time for the HD-DVD add-on.........

As you have stated webmaster - the problem is output processing.

The ideal solution would be for LCD TV's to have built in up/down scalers so that a decent picture could be obtained from any source - not sure if this is possible though - I'm no techie.

I'm not going to worry about 1080p for a while yet - there's still very few TV's available capable of dealing with that resolution and loads of people are still using CRT televisions. It's all well and good having the technology available but if it's not in every day use then best to hold your horses...
