Is this dealer lying to me?

I have been in touch with a dealer regarding some budget alloys. They have said that wheels with a 38 offset will be fine on my classic impreza.
is this true or will I need some kind of spacers?

38mm is 10mm further out in the arch than most std cars..............some models even use 53mm..............

sounds doubtful that they are going to fit with no issues
