Default does anyone insure their scooby TPO ?

for a classic wrx sti I've had a quote of 1500 fully comp (with step mum added as named driver, 2k without!!)
third party brings it down to just below 1k

I know there's no right or wrong answer, just looking for opinions, wondering if anyone insures their car third party, or is that just daft ?

cars I'm looking at are arounf the 4-5k mark

I insure mine TPFT.
Having said that, I did take out the insurance before joining this forum, so would probably shop around a bit more next time.
Mine is a MY96 Japanese WRX and the quote went from around £1500 to £680 when I changed from fully comp. That was with RAC. Given the value of the car, I decided to risk it - I paid £3900 for the car.
At the end of the day, that's what it comes down to. How much of a risk you are willing to take.

Hope this helps
Nick

from experience (and a nasty crash) id say pay the extra for fully comp. i had my first scoob when i passed my test in march right, and it was only a sport. had it insured as its valve at £2700, but then had a new spoiler put on (£200) and a set of 18" speedline turini corse alloys put on (£1200) plus some audio (£300). i then crashed it and lost all my money (around £4500 after mods) and was totally gutted. it was money i had borrowed too so im still paying off what is now down the local scrappy.

simple thing is if you crash (your fault) and its unrepaireable ask yourself...

do you mind stumping up the cash for a new car? (tp f&t)

or would you like your insurer to pay out the value of the car (minus excesses) and have a higher premuim the next year round. (fully comp)

i know what i would have preffered anyway being £4500 down.

other solution is dont crash but you never know do you. bit of advice from a poor b@stard that got stung.

best of luck anyway.
