just curious - any reason (apart from engine weight) that the front / rear pressures are different? And what effects will having all 4 the same have opposed to this?

Yes. Cornering hard places more force on the front for obvious reasons, as does hard braking. Higher pressures will help stiffen the sidewalls and maintain the size of the contact patch with the road.
Excess pressure will cause the tyre to bulge in the mid tread, causing premature wear in the middle. Low pressure with wear the edges more noticably.....
