Question Worn pad indicator noise..?

Front pads have around <4mm of 'meat' left on them and obviously need changing asap. (05 WRX 15k)

However, for the last 1k miles I have noticed that when moderate braking from high speed it feels like the ABS is pulsing 'faintly' through pedal, can this be due to the fact that pads were getting low..?

Also, at what point do the wear indicators start to squeel (assuming they're not bent) and I presume they'll only squeel whilst braking..? Only asking this as I've tonight noticed an intermittent tinny/squeeky noise between 30-60mph that's not engine speed related (ie happens whilst coasting). IMHO it's unlikely to be the worn pads as it's happening off brakes, just wondered if I might be wrong..?

BTW I'll be ordering a set of DS2000 pads, braided hoses and some decent fluid first thing Monday..!

Well I'll answer my own question (For anyone searching/future ref.):

It would seem that the wear shim does indeed squeel (very light ringing) even without braking, suppose it's just resting on disc..

BTW still haven't fitted my new pads as it's too damm cold..!

Default DS2000 / DS2500

Just fitted DS2500 to my MY00 classic. Fantastic. Very quick to bed in if you simulate the race prep given on the supplied instructions. Hit them moderately hard in four second bursts - against a light LFB if reqd - to build temperature. They were 80% good after that. Getting even slightly better after another 100 miles of backroad work. Little dust and much better feel and bite, especially when hot. The DS2000 are going to be similar I guess. What fluid did you go for mate?

Steve.

Interestingly it appears that only OEM pads have these squeel/wear shims..!

Can you not reuse the old shims?

the shims yes but were really on about the wear indicator tabs which are attaced to the pads themselves

I did consider this Pete as it is only fitted to one pad (o/s inner) but it's riveted to the backing plate and there is no way to fit it to my new pads. Not a problem really as you can see how much material is left easily enough through wheels.

BTW I don't think the 30mm pads come with wear/squeel shims..!
