Default Car Ideas, £7-£9k, 4 door

Selling (sold) our Ibiza Cupra R, due to impending child no.2, as we need a 4 door.
Quite fancied the Leon Cupra R, but not too many for less than £10k.
Have also considered another Scooby, but running costs are a little high.
Any other ideas for a quick, nice looking car, ideally 4 door, and a bit practical, along the lines of the LCR/Scooby.
Cheers

Accord Type R?
Nice one, yeah, will look into it.
Oh, and it's for the missus mainly (not that that makes any difference).

You wont get an LCR for your budget price but why not try a leon cupra??

180bhp and 5 doors. You'll get a minter for £8k and a £500 remap will make it into LCR 225 spec anyway! Add filter and exhaust and you'll be knocking on door of around 240bhp.

Agree. You will get a mint 328 E39 BMW for that money. You can actually get decent higher mileage M3's for around 9k.

Also what about a B5 platform Audi S4. Normally a few on Autotrader for about 9-10k. Or try Croft Motors website although their S4's are slightly more expensive last time i checked but not much and considering you will get 265bhp worth a look.

Is an E39 not a 5-Series?

I would be looking at E46 3-Series rather than E36 3-series for 10k budget TBH. If you arent too fussed about mileage, then you might be able to pick up an early 330d... Which I totally recommend!!

Grant

Quite correct E36 He wants a performance car i thought though not a diesel. 330d is quickish but not what i call fast plus its still a diesel which means 4500rpm redline which is not fun.IMO. You can get 5 series BMW 528i's for this money or maybe a 530i but then it is older cars you are looking at which you might not want.

The car went today, so money burning a hole in pockets.
Quite fancy the LCR, there are a few for under £10k, and a couple nearer £9k, one or two i'll be viewing tomorrow, both with traders. Budget is £9k max, so hoping if they're OK, my haggling skills, and their need for cash flow at a quiet time may bag me a bargain.
The standard Cupra, to me is too plain, and i'd always be thinking 'I wish i'd got an R' if I bought one.
Not too keen on the Skoda, and the Golf seems a bit small, and the ATR, maybe a little ugly/plain??
The S4 - yep, cracking car, but a little too heavy to insure and run i'd guess. Same for the M3.
As for car-jacking, fair point, but I won't let my choices be dictated by criminals.
We initially planned to maybe get something cheaper and bank a bit, but why do you always go over your budget with a car, just to get the 'right one'??
Any other ideas?

LCR for £9k?

Where abouts and what is history like? Reg/miles/accident damage?

Never seen any under £10k yet.

There's a few on the autotrader - all 60-70k miles, ex company 1 owner jobbies, so hopefully all motorway with proper service intervals (they all have FSSH). 2002, 53 regs mostly, no accident damage AFAIK. Seems dealers get ex fleet cars and flog them through the trader, with a warranty shouldn't be too much risk.

52 reg is 2002.

A 53 reg will be a 225 version and will be a lot more expensive than 10k.

Have you driven an LCR?
I had one for almost 2 years and thought it didn't handle very well. The ride was strange as well. Rock hard going over bumps & pot holes, yet soft and wallowy going round bends.
Fitting Eibachs helped a little with the cornering and REVO remap made it into a straight line rocket ship but it was never what I'd class as "fun" to drive.

The right car came along: Immaculate Black LCR.
Yes, i've driven an LCR, have to disagree with the handling comments, it's set up pretty well - SEAT Sport know their stuff. Very very quick too.
Pretty chuffed - plenty of room for kids to travel in style
