Default Insurance query for 21/22 year old

Just after some general advice really im currentley 20 but i'll be 21 come January and im hoping to join the subaru club after university as ive no student debt and should hopefully be in employment.

Im hoping to purchase a 2001 Uk spec wrx but would it prove benificial for me to wait untill im 22 the following January to look into insuring such a car for something sub £2000? or is insuring such a car achieveable at 21?

I'm currently 22, and with 1 years no claims and 3 points for being daft I've been given a quote for £1021 tpft or £1479 fully comp to insure a classic shape wrx STI. I found my insurance dropped a great deal when I reached 21, (at the time I had an mr2 turbo and insurance fell from £1000 to £740), but not a great deal from the ages 21 to 22, so you may not save a great deal by waiting another year (although another year's no-claims bonus would bring it down further). The fact that you are looking at a UK model will also go in your favour. The best thing to do is phone around a few insurance companies and see what they can offer.

Hope this helps

The car is a 1999 RB5 WR with just De-cat and alloys, nothing really that justifies the huge premium.

Are there any other under 25s out there that can reccommend companies with similar details?

I'm slowly going down the list of Insurers in the sticky but it's not much fun hearing "it's because of your age and high insurance group......"

Are you sure that quote is right? Most places wil not touch an under 25 for an Sti let alone give you a quote around that mark (especially with only one years no-claims). What company is that with?

I'd be very suspicious of any quote for a 22 year old with one years NCB for an Sti that was under 2 grand.

The company was Bell, and I'm positive everything is correct. I rang the call centre as opposed to getting a quote online and spent a bit of time with the guy on the phone going through the details. I found the thing that had the biggest effect on the quote was adding my mother (48 with no points or claims) to the policy. By doing this it dropped by several hundred pounds. I also had it limited to 6000 miles as I have access to another vehicle, and I live in quite a remote area which is bound to help too. I have heard that they are especially good for people who live in Scotland so perhaps this played a part.

No idea why it's so high then matey. I checked all my details thoroughly with the guy so there's nothing at fault with the prices I was quoted. Could just be down to area or car value?

Hi, I'm 23 and currently pay £1650 fully comp for my Classic 95 WRX Jap Import, Including breakdown cover. 5 years no claims though has helped.

Insured by Express.

Cheers

I've got my mother as a named driver, with me as the main driver. I think it's illegal to have them as the main driver if you do most of the driving.

I just thought I would let you all know what I am doing for my insurance. I am 21 and own a 97 2000 turbo. I got insured with Bell (same company as elephant and diamond, but much cheaper!). I am paying £850 for 10 months, third party, oh, and I had no no-claims!

The reason it is so cheap is because of the following factors.

1, I co-inhabit with my girlfriend (dunno why this made a difference, but it did!)
2, I put her on the policy as well (reduced it by around £600!)
3, I am only doing 6000 miles a year

When I rang up they gave me 4 years no claims discount because I moved my girlfriends insurance on her car across as well!

The moral of the story is if you shop around us people younger than 25 can get insurance.

Hope you get what you want; it’s all worth it in the end!

Huw
