I'm not interested in how it drives, residuals, reliability or anything like that..

Just want to know all the performance figures available for this car as I had a wee "run-in" with one earlier!!

316 bhp, but heavier that the normal Carrera 4, weighing in at 1470 kg.

 

It depends on whether or not it was tip or manual, cab or coupe.

A C4S Cab with tip box is the slowest 911 of them all. Not in the same league as a manual C2 Coupe.

When I had my STI Type R (310bhp), I had a run in with a C4S cab and kept up with ease (felt like I could have went past him). Tried the same with a C2 Coupe, all was well untill 70-80, then it was bye bye from the Porker.

 

No idea on the gearbox mate... but it was a Coupe. I thought they'd have more than 316bhp?!

That takes some of the "special-ness" out of my win now!!

They look faster than they are. Kind of like a WRX made to look like an STi.....fake.

 

Is the 996 S the same power as the normal carrera, just with differant 'bits' ?

And the 997 Carrera S does actually have more power?

I've driven a normal 996 Carrera, handling was lovely but really wasn't impressed with straight line power. But still lovely looking cars.

 

It's 325bhp not the 316 that is often quoted.

I don't know what you drive, but my 996 C2 is faster than my STi Type R, not by loads, infact by nothing upto 80ish. After that, there is no way a standard scoob (Except a spec c) is going to live with it.

I'd say you would need 320+ bhp in a scoob to keep with a 911.

But then driver commitment plays a large part. I proved this to the driver of a 996TT, a car which I have driven and know to be much faster than my C2. He just wouldn't hit the corners as fast as I would, over the course of a few more corners, I pulled a couple of cars length on him. Yet we all know, in most cases, I'd have had my **** handed to me on a plate.

BHP isn't always the defining factor in a race.

 

The C4S is basically a 996tt without the turbos. Some consider it to be the best 996 as it has the turbo's brakes & suspension that's in between the 996tt & the C4.

 

Nice cars like others say, all the nice bits - big red brake calipers, big turbo wheels and a wider body? I think? certainly was in the 993. Carries more weight too, lovely cars, very refined and will start to drop a scoob from 90 upwards Id say, but then a scoob can hang on to most cars on the road to 100 cant they, no big shock.

 

I drive a Celica GT4, no idea on power, but I pulled cleanly away from a friend in her proven 310bhp GT4 and from 5/10mph to 85/90mph where we had to slow down again I pulled a large gap on a new style E55 AMG.

This didnt involve any twisties, it was off a roundabout from about 25mph to about 110mph, he wasnt gaining, I pulled a few car lengths on him, flashed my hazards and he gave me a flash of acknowledgement before I took my turn off, indicating (to me ) that he was trying.

Grant, I'm not sure whether your GT4 is modified or not and that will change things. I would be suprised if many cars would pull away from a E55 AMG in the dry on a 0-100 mph drag. They are seriously fast cars on straight line pulls.

 

Yea, my car has had a fair amount spent on it mate... Forged Rebuild, Full Blitz Exhaust, Straight Intake, Jun Cams/Springs/Gears, TD06 with Tial 38mm Ext Wastegate and Screamer Pipe, Raised Boost, thats the main bits I can remember, but there are lots of other parts!!

The guy in Merc came screaming up behind me, so once we got out of town, crawled round a roundabout and floored it..... that was the end result.

Your GT4 must be heavily modded!! and a bit special. I had one for 2 months in between owning the scoob and the Porsche. It was standard and bloody awful!!
If I set off in 3rd in the porsche, the GT4 (I owned) would have a job to catch me! And it handled like a tesco's trolley!

You must be running an easy 450+bhp to pull away from anything with AMG on it.
The E55 AMG has a 5.5 supercharged V8, churns out 476bhp and will hit 100 in 10 seconds flat! My 911 takes 11 secs, whilst a P1 takes 13 secs to hit a ton.

You should put your car on a dyno, it must be running crazy BHP to do the things it has done.

 

errr beg to differ the 996 tt has a different ENGINE to the c4s

 

I could believe that of a standard ST185!!


Not really mate, from a standing start up to around 90/100 I would back my car against most things, I think it was Top Gear that showed the lack of grip one of the AMG Merc's had even with the Traction Control on... so I assume his yellow light was flickering like a good'un as he tried to channel as much of the 476bhp as his Electronics would allow onto the tarmac in his 1.5+tonne autobahn stormer.


I dont see a problem with my car beating a P1, the 310bhp GT4 I mentioned earlier is quicker than one that runs the exact "Subaru Quoted Times" on the 1/4 mile and as I also mentioned..... I pulled cleanly away from her in my '4.


Thats all in hand.....


Does anyone have the figures for these cars then?? (Both the C4S and the Merc now!!)

Getting an AMG to put its power down in the dry is no problem. Just needs a different kind of input for the throttle. The auto gearbox will also be quicker than potential 'fluffed' gear changes for a straight drag. The supercharger also means no lag, immediate power.
In the wet its an entirely different matter, but again a subtle right foot works wonders!

 

I know, the C4S uses the regular M96 engine, whereas the TT uses a totally different block, with parts shared with the 964. Saying C4S is a tt without the turbos is just a generalisation.
