i remember drooling over one of these at the NEC Motor Show when they were first launched
Still on the wishlist at the moment though
Please don't go and ruin it with one of those big daft wings
Thanks for the comments guys but no additional wings for me. I want it to look as smooth as possible! The rear wiper will be coming off soon and the hole filled and the badges will be coming off to!
sorted, another rex owner Looks a nice motor mate
.... quality cars, so much fun. Just be gentle on them roundabouts, especially in this weather

I'm being very gentle with it at the moment, has had the engine recently rebuilt so not allowed to go over 4000rpm till its done 1000 miles. Have only done 300 so far. It only comes out of the garage when the weather is good so that i dont have to keep cleaning it! Very nice motor you have there also!

flat4_ire, thanks. I like you always wanted one and was always put off buy the rotary but to be honest, I just thought fek it, you only live once and I know Id regret it if I never had 1... So here we are
its something that for me personally blows my old impreza out of the water in terms of performance, looks and handling... only thing the impreza has that the rex doesnt... is a boot to fit the golf clubs in

mmm...yum yum! Was looking at these before i bought the scoob. Very nice motors and a lot of bang for yer buck! If you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay for her? Ive got a friend looking for a scoob but he's got points on his license and the insurance companys dont want to know. Trying to persuade him to get an RX-7, which has got nothing to do with me wanting a shot of one....honest!

I paid £8200 for mine about 2 months ago. fairly heavily modded though under the bonnet too...
can pick up a very good car for about £7k thats been rebuilt so no reliability worries....
insurance is about £700-800 for me with only 3NCB and 6points... aged 25

To be honest they are a reliable car but are prone to hard lifes so rebuilds every 60k ish is pretty much mandatory hence all the cheap rex's ont he market have around 50k+ on them... spend that bit more and get something already rebuilt and your laughing.
aslong as theyre looked after/serviced etc then you should have trouble free motoring. petrol is expensive though Im seeing about 250miles at best out of £60 worth of fuel

The rotary engine burns a small amount of sump oil as a part of the engines normal function. This oil comes from the sump, and is injected directly into the combustion chambers to help lubricate the apex seals, which also helps with compression.
Excessive heat soak on a hot day will lead to detonation, same as with a Scooby but that's just common sense. And as with any turbo car you just have to make sure everything is up to temp before booting it.
There's 2 choices when buying these cars, either spend £7 - £9K on one that's had a recent rebuild, or find a cheap one (around £5k) with 60,000+ miles but good bodywork and interior and get it rebuilt yourself for up to £3k all-in depending on spec..
