My mate had one - wicked cars although hit the limiter in 5th at about 115 mph so very zippy, but not great on the motorway. 35+ mpg, handled well, stopped well etc and VERY reliable...........

I would if it is cheap.

If you don't mind me asking what exactly is cheap? I'm looking for one of these for the better half at the moment.

My mate used to work for Toyota (salesman) and had one as his demo for about 6 months, it took all the abuse we threw at it and surprised a few people with the performance aswell.

Not bad at that price!

Apologies (kind of!) for the thread resurrection, but better than starting again I thought. Been looking into getting one of these... Any more opinions?

Should I be looking at a Lupo GTI instead?

Would be to replace a classic Mini-Cooper and Honda Civic, I'm thinking 'best of both worlds'

Yup,--we ran one for 3 years from new from 2001--a 3 door so not good for anyone who has to access the back seats as from memory, only the front passenger seat can fold forward. (However I believe 5 door versions now available which would be a better option).
Obviously boot space not great but you probably know that and rear seat can slide.
Reliability-----absolutely 1st. rate.
Depreciation--again fairly good due to Toyota good name
Suspension---awful--bangs and crashes over poor road surfaces so make sure you test drive to ensure you can live with the hard ride.
Performance--quite good outright acceleration, 0-60 in about 9.2 secs. but torque is useless, probably due to variable valve timing, akin to some Honda engines.
Noise----again pretty poor due to low overall gearing to try to make up for lack of torque--from memory just under 20mph/1000revs in 5th.
Buy another---no as we now run a Fabia vRS as 2nd(wife's car) which is superior to the Yaris in all departments.

Note---have run Impreza Turbo( MY99) since new as 1st. car and have to say in busy road conditions, day to day driving conditions, I have to admit now liking the powerful diesel engine characteristics than the top end power of the Impreza which is much faster ultimately than the vRS but at low revs, the vRS is much more satisfying.

Forgot to comment on MPG---I was taught to note down litres bought and car mileage every time I buy petrol( or diesel) so easy to work out overall MPG every 1000miles.
Yaris T-Sport---about 42mpg overall
Fabia vRS------about 45mpg overall
Impreza Turbo-about 26mpg overall

However I also note that you can pick up the Yaris at a good price--this could be the big decider because so far, you won't pick up a vRS at a good price as they're holding value so well.
If you go for the Yaris, it will be reliable and dash is better than standard version as T-Sport has conventional dials( not digital) and you'll find you're driving a car that is that bit rarer on the roads; just don't expect miracles from it in terms of performance and refinement.
Hope this is of some use.--Dave.
