Question Fuel pump - fuse or relay position?

Afternoon all,

Is there a fuse for the fuel pump? If not, where's the relay for it exactly? Story so far:

Car was running fine all day (UK MY98); parked up, then it wouldn't restart when I went to use it a few hours later. It just turned over & over with no sign of firing.

Cleaned the cam & crank sensors, then checked for fuel at the filter with the ignition on - nothing. No noise from the fuel pump, so put in the new Walbro I had on the shelf. Still no priming noise or fuel flow - aagh!

Multimeter shows no power going to the pump with the ignition on - am I missing something, because I don't think there's a fuse for the pump?

I guess it could be the relay (which is presumably somewhere behind the dash?) - apart from the new pump, the fuel system's standard, as is the ECU.

As always, all helpful pointers appreciated!

Cheers,
Steve

According to my '98 UK handbook, there is no fuse specifically for the fuel pump.

There is one for the ignition system, you could try that one, it's fuse 11, which is 4th from the left, middle row, fuse box in the car.

Thanks for the pointer Alcazar,

The fuse is fine; just for a laugh I've checked every fuse that I can find - all ok!

The hunt goes on!

Cheers,
Steve

if it's got a sigma alarm on it it's probably the alarm ecu i've changed a few now for not powering the fuel pump, no pattern to them sometimes they work ok then they don't

Scoobyboy - it has got a Sigma alarm.

I tried putting it into Valet mode & the car actually "coughed" a couple of times on cranking, as though it wanted to start, but I checked the fuel at the filter - still no flow.

Swapped over the fuel pump relays onto my mate's car (cheers Scott) - his car fires fine, so my relays are ok.

Time for an auto electrician/RAC I guess. Being colour-blind, I don't mess with electrics!

Cheers,
Steve

Full marks to Scoobyboy - it's the fuel cutout circuit apparently!

So anyone any ideas how much a new Sigma ecu is, or can point me to any recommended dealers/fitters in the Reading or Worcester areas?

Cheers,
Steve
