Default M3 CSL vs 'sorted' DC5 teg....

just seen this:

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y77...drive_RSX5.jpg

and fallen in love.

I know from previous experience that the DC5 is a fantastic car on both road and track.

as you probably know from my previous m3 csl thread, I'm looking to get a serious performance car that I can use extensively on track, but also retains a certain amount of everyday usability.

It *must* be involving to drive, it *must* have pretty decent performance, and it *must* be designed to take the kind of track day punishment I will give it from day one, without requiring extensive modifications.

I have already pretty much decided on the M3 CSL, but having seen this kit, and knowing the DC5 makes a seriously good track day car (especially the track special versions with LSD etc.) I would be interested to know just how much difference there is between the CSL and a track-sorted DC5 on a circuit, if both pedalled well.

Just thinking that the DC5 could save me the best part of 20k...

I'm being dense - is that based on a 'teg??? Or is it prodrive's new coupe with the impreza running gear?

If you can afford to buy and run the CSL then why are you even considering that?

M3 CSL's are gorgeous, that looks fast n furious.

I'd love a CSL it's a dream car, the only person that'd dream of the Honda (?) would be wearing Burberry pyjamas

I'd prefer that DC5 over a CSL any day of the week, that looks simply stunning

That's a DC5 with a Prodrive kit I think.

I've got a DC5 and struggled ot keep up with a Boxter S and I kept it in the VTEC zone, however the Boxter was pulling all the time (just a little) so why don't you consider a Boxter S for track days, apparently they handle really well and I was suprised at how fast it was and I'm not about to repeat how fast we were going

Yes its a integra dc5, hence why I'm asking about DC5's

Not interested in NSX, hence why I'm not asking about NSX's. Or boxsters.

YUM!

Looks like a DTM racer!

Anyone supercharged a DC5? Is it worth putting that much power to the front wheels?

Edcase,

Ask yourself if you can afford to crash, damage and repair the CSL doing trackdays?

Whereas the DC5 you could totally write off and buy another

Or, buy the DC5 and get motorbike engined caterham etc for trackdays

Damian.

Damian, you have hit the nail on the head. Those are the exact questions I'm asking (except the caterham bit).

My point is, is the csl TWICE as good / much fun as a sorted DC5, because that is what it will cost.

I'm not being tight, I can afford the CSL (in two months time anyway) but after years of living beyond my means there is a part of me that thinks here is an opportunity to still have a lot of fun but save some serious cash.

Go on to http://www.itr-dc5.co.uk/ this is where we DC5 boys reside, and yes you can stick on a Jackson Racing super charger and there are some boys running them, there is allso a lad on the forum who is running a Greddy turboed car (I think it's in this months Jap performance mag) I don't know how they get the power down though through the front wheels.

Will buying the CSL mean you can not do as many track days as if you bought a car half the price?

If the answer is yes, then the cheaper car it is.

Having driven both on track they each have their own plus's and minus's, as you'd imagine.

The immediate one is obviously rear wheel drive v front wheel drive; some love fwd, and you can get the teg rather out of shape quite easily, but fwd just doesn't 'do it' for me. Some days I have my serious lapping head on, but some days I just want to play, and I don't find fwd so much 'fun' which, after all, is why we do it isn't it.

One major downside of the CSL is the alarming rate that they eat tyres. My mate, who will no doubt be along shortly, has spent in the region of £16k on tyres in the last 18 months- think they're michelin pilot cup sports? semi-slick anyway...

You could probably buy the DC5 and a 2nd hand 320d for the money you'd fork out for a CSL.

I can see where you are coming from. The CSL is a lot of car to damage, but for track use i think a FR or MR configuration would be best. A FWD with LSD is not te best for on road use. So i have a plan, to keep you looking and feeling flash on a daily basis, and looking and feeling flash at the weeking pioleting a track monster:

Shame the 968 hasn't M030 and it's got the crap seat but yeah, I'd go along with that - though an M3 is (imo) too good for a daily drive. 530d would be better imo, that way, when you drive the 968 you'd be like "fooock this is quick". It'd be an occasion everytime you started it up.

That club sport looks in great nick, do you not think it would be a shame to ruin it by tracking it???

Have you not thought of an Exige, Elise 111s or even a Noble??

Gav..

I have, but I didn't want to get a specific track car, I wanted something that I could also use as an occasional daily driver with a bit of practicality.
