Just done the "standard" 6000cs / Sony 7750 upgrade to MY01... Definately much better than before, but still not as good as I expected. Next step is to Dynamat the doors and remove plastic sheet.

Has anyone considered how much sound is lost due to the cruddy plastic grilles infront of the woofer and tweeter in the door card?

Surely it would be better to chop them out and replace with shaped metal mesh somehow?

Can any more experienced ICEers provide any advice on this and whether there is much potential gain?

Anyone ever done this?

If the mesh is a concern, why not mount them behind the mirrors?

I mounted mine behind the mesh in the door card (I didn't want them to be visible) but have not used the -3db setting that seems to be advised by most here. I like them set this way - maybe mounting by the door pulls softens the brightness somewhat.

Adding some bass via a pair of 6x9 subs has really brought the system to life though.
