I have driven a Leon Cupra R - which is was impressed with for dry weather handling and comfort. I had reservations about the build quality which wasn't VW or Skoda standards. I have also driven a golf 130 PD, which is awesome. Effortless pulling power through to silly speeds.......

Not the most helpful but a start, however i am told the new generation 2.0 diesel is a league above the 1.9. So worth a sniff in Audi's / VW / Skoda's that are offering this engine.....

alternatives include the Golf 2.0 GT TDi. i drove the old golf gt pd 150 and it was very impressive. hoping the newer 140bhp ones are the same.....

Have driven both the Golf 140 and 150's Steve, and I find that they are awesome cars.

Very comfy in either, as you say effortless pulling power from both, better handling on the 140 (pretty sharp to be honest) but obviously more costly. Not too keen on the mark 5 interior and the mark 4 boat like ride.

i see the golf is euro 4 but the fr is not.

wondering how thats likely to affect tax etc over the coming 2/3 years.......i guess in time the 2.0 golf engine will find its way into the Leon.......

otherwise i'm a bit stuck. could remain with a a bigger car...currently have a laguna.

...i test drove the 1.9tdi Leon Cupra if it helps and was very impressed with it's handling and lots of torque. Comfortable, but seemed a bit pokey in the back...maybe the smallish back window doesn't help. A pretty car in my opinion.
Was tempted by the impressive mpg figures aswell....around the 45/50mpg mark.
.......Didn't buy one because i still wanted more fun in the Scoob.

Mate has just taken delivery, of the FR, in black, with black interior.
No comparison really to the Cupra R, (ie no Brembo's, no 18's, no recaro's).
Autochanger was extra, did get cruise control. Much more similar in looks to the Cupra 20VT.
Performance is not bad, 0-60 in about 8.5 (I think), 40+mpg, impressive acceleration in 2nd & 3rd (ie bags of torque), ride is much less harsh than Cupra R, build quality is good (but not as good as Audi A3), Revo chip makes it a much better all rounder. New model out in about 6 months I think.
Pretty good car for the money though.

cheers audiman.

cant wait 6 months for new one

not bothered it wont compare to the Cupra R as mentioned got the weekend car.

yeah, an autochanger used to be standard and then was made an extra. single disc be ok.

good to hear its got good 2/3 gear acceleration and 40+mpg. that ties in with what i've heard.

wont be able to chip it either !

I test drove a Cupra TDi 150 when I was looking for a company car late last year. I was impressed with it, and would have got one except my boss decided against letting me spend that much on a car Couldn't find a nearly new one at the right price either.

As stated above, loads of torque, accelerates pretty sharply for something that runs on tractor juice.

With reference to the Euro 4 emissions, isn't the 3% reduction in company car tax the Euro 4 cars attract disappearing shortly? If so, I can't see that there's any great benefit over Euro 3 cars like the Leon TDi.

John.

yes John, the Euro 4 3% disapperas from next jan but all cars registered before will be ok

the Golf Gt TDi is only 16%,which is makes it almost unbeatable as a company car.I test drove the lot,and plumped for one,it really is a great car (providing you don't change gear to high up the band,it has aflat spot)

fabulous company car and the handling is lightyears ahead of the Mrk IV
