ticking in under bonnet

ticking in under bonnet
im got this fast ticking coming from under the bonnet on the drivers side top left. it dosnt always happen but when it dose it happens when the engine is running and keeps going when ive turned the engine off and stops when i turn the key to 0 on the barrel.anyone got any ideas hope ive expained it right.
