Im actually surprised to say that that MGF coupe looks pretty good.

But who in their right mind would buy a Rover?? Get some stupidly dated technology, iffy build quality and guarenteed MASSIVE depreciation - and to top it all you get to line the pockets of the greedy board members who pay themselves more than twice that of the BMW board, despite the company making loses

Rover should just drop the Rover brand, and concentrate on MG.

My dads just bought an MG ZT and its a really nice car, the build quality is great and the technology isnt that dated, fairly recent (by Rover standards) but its funny how pwople put up with Mini's breaking down and Mercs being crap nowadays without saying much but slag Rover stuff off without having one, my father in law is about to get shut of a 2 year old c class Merc because it spends more time in the dealers than on the road. Depreciation happens on all cars, sure BMW's lose a lot less but I think even that is changing, perhaps if you look at the fact that cars depreciate massively with a few exceptions then it isnt quite such a Rover specific problem, Alfa's, Fiat's, Renults, Peugeots, Fords etc do it as well, fashion seems to play a bigger part in this that quality, the new Mini is a nightmare for a lot of owners, poor reliability, poor economy, crap packaging and an engine salvaged from a South American skip, its fun and trendy so its faults tend to be glossed over.

Besides, that 75 coupe is stunning, take the blinkers off it or just look past the badge preconceptions, its a good looking car, in fact it has more than a hint of Bentley about it. The MGF coupe looks way better than the old MGF that still sells and if priced right, in fact it looks quite purposeful.

Just for the record I am not MGJohn, although I do have a Rover product at the moment I am not some kind of Rover fetsihist, it just annoys me that whatever MG Rover do, they get slagged.

The 75/ZT is well built, fairly modern, more reliable than most German rivals, does well in satisfaction surveys and depriciation is not as bad as most other mainstream manufacturers like Ford, Vauxhall and Peugeot. Just don't pay anywhere near list price.

The rest of the range is in desperate need of replacement though.

Cheers

Lee, agreed, they have dragged the 200/25 400/45 on way too long, have to say though that a ZR in a decent (i.e. not bright yellow) still is a good looking and fine handling car, you cant however compare them to the current crop of hot hatches.

They do seem to still sell judging by the number you see, could be because you can get a ZR for less than 9 grand new, there's not a lot else to compete with it really.

Best not mention the Citi Rover, not even fooling the pensioners with that one.

75 coupe look rather nice, and bares more than a passing resemblence to the Bentley Continental GT. Hope MG uses their 385bhp supercharged V8.

Agree 100%, but, are they going to eke out the 75 range for another 5 years too? Even that is getting a bit past its sell by date, but survives on the fact that it was a good design in the first place. It desparately needs a proper makeover not yet another facelift.

The 75 coupe looks great but is now based on a last generation platform. It might be new by Rovers standards but it's very old hat.
I wouldn't buy a Rover because of their depreciation and image problems. Weren't their directors accused of monumental greed recently for feathering their own nests while the company goes down the toilet?
When/if Rover dies it will be a sad day I can't understand why it was allowed to go so wrong.

i find it ironic that the BMW board are moaning about the Rover directors pay, after they raped Rover of its major assets, ran the company into the ground and tried to make everyone at Rover redundant.

They should keep their gobs shut and carry on profiting from the brand Rover built up with the mini before someone reminds them what a hash they made of the company that is now desperately trying to survive.

Ironic maybe but unfortunately there is some truth in what they are saying.

I hope Rover do manage to make it despite the pocket lining currently going on. What will Rover do now they have few assets left to strip to bolster their figures?

It was proved that MGR had the design for the nose for the V8 before Audi designed the nose for the new A6.
Audi just released their version first.
