Woke up this morning to find my number plates nicked from my Silver MY95 Turbo (M reg) parked at a hotel in Windsor area. Reported to police. Suspect the blighters are up to no good. What would they do with them??

Same happened to me in the high Wycombe area a while ago - I too reported it - they flagged the plates as dodgy on the police computer so if anyone was seen with the plates they’d be stopped. I passed quite a few police cars and none of them stopped me. Anyhow the plates turned up not far from where they went missing - just turned out to be kids being mindless @holes...

the other reason can be to steal another identical car, and swap the plates for yours, this way they are less likely to get pulled travelling to wherever they are going

just hope they dont go through any gatso's if this is what they are upto!
hope its not tho

Get new plates immediately before you are pulled by Old Bill for not displaying reg mark!

I boshed the front of a ford escort (company car, ahem) years ago and on driving it en route to a garage to get an estimate was pulled by a busy WPC who asked me if I knew the front lights were defective and I was not displaying the reg mark. Eh?

Meanwhile assorted ne'er do wells were speeding past without valid tax, bald tyres, riding their bikes on the pavement etc.

You couldn't make it up.

Chances are if lowlife wanted to nick a car and use your reg they wouldn't be so subtle. They'd have a mate make up some identical plates without arousing your suspicion.

I'm off to a car accessorie place at lunch time to get a new set made up. I'll not risk driving it, so will go in one of the company cars.

Can not decide if it was just kids messing around or some more seriuos reason. Luckly there's no damage. It's all just a pain in the ar$e

Edit: Howerver, have noticed how good it looks from the front without the number plate there

Petrol Station drive off probably. Doesn't even need to be the same car & why have 'em made up when it costs & someone might remember.

Question

Not that I'm usually devious or anything but......

What if you were to report that someone had stolen your number plates, then suddenly, a number of rearward facing speed cameras in your local area started clocking an identical Scooby, wearing 'your' number plates. From the rear, you cant be identified. Food for thought?

The Scooby is too rare a motor to get away with it on a regular basis. Now if you had a red or blue Mondeo or Vectra, then the odds are they'd never catch you.

In one of the European countries (Holland or Sweden, can't be bothered to check) something like 2% of all cars are on fake number plates because the owners are sick of all the Gatsos & speed-traps.

Found out when getting my towbar fitted that the STi2 has a "flip up" rear number plate mount Now what possible use could that be?

Question

Does anyone know what the consequence of not displaying your front no. plate is? I’ve looked at the dvla website but they just go on about spacing and fonts!
