Default Brake pad replacement advice STI 02...

Brake pads (all round) are coming to the end of their life so need to replace soon.

Do I get Suburu pads from dealer ? If so how much ?

Or do I get alternative products. If so, where from and how much ?

May want to change front dicks at some point. Any recommendations here ?

Also wanting advice for fitting aswell.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Neil

Fitting soooooooooo easy Takes me about 20minutes to do both fronts, and 10 minutes of that is jacking the car up and removing the wheels!

Jack up
Remove wheel
Remove spring retaining pin (can be done with fingers) that secures both pad locator pins on the engine side of the caliper.
Pull out lower locator pin (may need to gently knock it before pulling it with pliers from the outside)
Remove upper locator pin (large sprung steel pad retainer clip will drop out)
Remove pad and shims
Force both pistons back from one side of the disc (you will need 2 large bars/screw drives to do this)
Fit new pad and shims in (add copper grease to shims if you have any)
Force both pistons back from other side of the disc
Fit new pad and shims in
Replace top locator pin and sprung steel retainer clip)
Replace lower retainer pin ensuring sprung steel retainer clip is behind it.
Replace spring retaining pin.
Put wheel on
Lower jack

I've made that sound complicated!

Very good description remember, as he says, don't remove both pads (either side of Disc) at once or when you force the one side piston back in the other can pop out. Will then need to blead system and even worse Possibly damaging the seals.

Also make sure after you fit the wheel press the brake pedal a few times to 'pump' the system up or you'll have no brakes for first few pumps
