When I imported from a Dutch dealer, they fitted a Gemini alarm/immob, which I was told was Thatcham 1. But now the insurers are saying they can't find it on the list... My details on the alarm are sketchy - I have an installation certificate that calls it "Csbkit 2". Anyone know much about Gemini alarms, or can point me at any info about what this alarm/immob might be known as in the UK?

The only Gemini alarm on the Thatcham Cat1 list is model 7350 C1.

"Csbkit 2" doesn't sound to me like a proper model number. Have you tried ringing your Dutch dealer and asking them what model of alarm they had fitted?

The alarm unit may be thatcham approved, but their fitting won't be if it was fitted by the dealer.

The installers need to be certified by VSIB (or another approved body) and will give you a certificate as proof of installation.

Unless you've got a certificate, you have been shafted.

Who fitted the alarm: the dutch dealer or a UK import agent?

It wasn't installed by the dealer themselves; it was a third party in Holland, and there is a certificate stamped by them. So no. it's not likely to be directly Thatcham approved, but my particular insurer will be happy if it's 'equivalent'.

That's assuming I can find out what it is they've actually installed (no, not yet rung the dealer), and that it is the 7350CI that is on the Thatcham list.

If there's a certificate, it should give the thatcham approval number...

For your own piece of mind, document this with your insurer - put a letter along with the acceptance of their proposal. They're buggers for trying to wheedle out of anything remotely strange...
