My dad has got a A reg (I think), Porsche 944 automatic, and the cylinder head gasket has gone (white smoke out the exaust). How much should it cost to get fixed? His engine is the one with the ECU.

I belive there was another type also fitted to these that didn't have an ECU...would it be cheaper to fit another engine? (Maybe the older one), or to just get it done?

Anyone know anywhere decent, (*cough*, and cheap) in the Northwest to get them done?

 

If it's around the same price as a merc headgasket then budget between £700 and £1000 - really depends on labour rates.

Yep its a PITA to do yourself, not and easy job.

£600 all in sounds good to me.

 

Managed to get a very cheap quote, I'll update y'all on it tommorow, and how well the job goes..hehe...glad it's not my car getting done on the cheap!

Only kidding getting done by some guys who do my car and they're very good...but I'll get an update on the price and the workmanship, and give out the number if they do good

 

Remember when this happened on my 944 Turbo. Stupidly took it to the main Porsche dealer and got a bill for over £2,000!

Warranty Holdings warranty covered precisely nil of this as it was wear and tear.

 

Right he's been quoted £400 from the guys who do my FTO; "Sprayforce" on the Wirral 0151 678 0777. They should be finished with it in the next few days. The work they've done my my FTO has been great so I've no hesitation in recommending them
