I'm going to fit a new head unit that requires a power lead direct to the battery, not from the harness. Anyone any tips/instructions on doing this including fitted an inline fuse in the engine bay. Thanks.

PhilA 23 March 2004, 09:48 It certainly is. It requires an earthing point and a direct battery feed instead of using the harnees. For the earth I was just going to use the big fat earth lead that's there. Just need help with the battery feed. It's an MY99. explore 23 March 2004, 19:40 It certainly is. It's an MY99. i got the cda 9815RB you need to find the rubber grommit in the engine bay just above the turbo get a sharp blade slit a hole down to the inside sound proofing the get a philips screw driver just a little bigger than the 10 gauge (2mm) think wire well make sure you can get two widths of the wire throu it, as i recommend you earth to the batt to as i did will get a purer feed of power, get the wire and feed it from engine bay in to drivers foot well making sure you have enough wire to run round engine bay to batt, after you have run wire's to batt (do not connect to batt yet!!!!) go inside the car and feed wires round into where the stereo go's making sure you do not hinder and mec parts i.e clutch peddel i also recommend useing pvc tape or cable tie's to keep wire safe and tight. then just connect to stereo and batt. if you have the stereo wired up to the car already get it disconectted quick cos if you put to much power trou it it will cause a fire in the wiring loom!!!!!! by the why apline very good head unit, why above the rest so advanced. which model did you get? alcazar 23 March 2004, 20:47 So is it going to be live all the time then? If so, that would worry me. I'd be inclined to use the ORIGINAL power lead to switch a relay with fuse, sited in engine compartment, then wire from battery to relay to H/U via the grommet on the passenger side, well away from turbo heat. Alcazarmate where have you been???? stereos these days have a perm and a switch power perm is the one that needs the direct feed. but it is better to earth from the batt too!!!!! if this chap uses the norm loom he will cause his car to catch on fire, these new alpines draw a lot of power. o yeah phil you need to put an inline fuse on the live!!!!!!!!!! explore 24 March 2004, 20:03 So is it going to be live all the time then? Alcazar also if he uses a good wire heat isnt an issue, cant not have a shared power has to come from direct feed, sure this chap doesnt wanna f**k up what ever the wire is he connected to is on. alcazar 24 March 2004, 20:03 mate where have you been???? stereos these days have a perm and a switch power perm is the one that needs the direct feed. but it is better to earth from the batt too!!!!! if this chap uses the norm loom he will cause his car to catch on fire, these new alpines draw a lot of power. Not fitting high powered stereos, obviously:D: Alcazar PhilA 25 March 2004, 14:32 Cheers for the advice. I got the CDA 9812RB, not hooked up yet. Can I earth to the chassis behind the dash some where. The earth harness may be okay as I have just fitted an earth mod kit to my car. I'll follow our advise on the direct power feed, cheers. explore 26 March 2004, 21:20 Cheers for the advice. I got the CDA 9812RB, not hooked up yet.
