Thanks again for organising this Mark.
pappasmurf 09 April 2004, 09:44 Hey Slowboy,
I'm down for the morning of July 17th in Richmond!
Must be Mica Red day :D
Haven't seen your Scoob in Cambridge lately....do you still come up to this part of the world?
smurfy.
scoobdoo 09 April 2004, 19:14 I am down as the first!! I will be able to give you all a little report on how well everthing goes! Andy H you are after mine, so see you then, thanks again to RB5 for organising it.
scoobdoo 09 April 2004, 19:16 He may have a bit of fun re-mapping mine, I had peak boost of 1.8 bar the other day!!!!!!! So a few gremlins to sort out!!
SlowBoy 09 April 2004, 21:09 Smurfy,
Cool, I'll bring me camera - 2 red ones in the same place! :)
Still working up in Cambridge, but missed the meet last month - looked like a good turn out with the Essex boys there, too. Depending on what else is going on that weekend, I might head down to Richmond early, if you fancy a mini convoy.
Hope to see ya around.
SlowBoy 09 April 2004, 21:10 ps. did you get your KL installed?
SlowBoy 11 April 2004, 19:07 Was It You? Smurfy, Lensfield Road Sunday 11th at 7pm?
RB5_IOM 20 April 2004, 08:35 BTTT
As its nearly time for the first runners to go this saturday, I thought I'd dig this thread out and put it BTTT.
Tristan and Andy are the first up, let us know how it goes guys :)
Cant wait for mine now, and just in time for the trackday at curborough too :)
chris.
ZippyEFC 07 June 2004, 15:44 So whats the verdict then?
scoobdoo 07 June 2004, 17:03 Bloody brilliant, I had so many peaks and troughs in power before, and I had to drive around the knock link sensor which warned me of detonation, also the boost was all over the place. Now I have virtually no det, the boost holds steady at 1.4 bar and the best bit is the power is alot smoother now, I can put my foot down mid to late corner and I will smoothly and quickly acelerate, wheareas before, the turbo would blow and the power would snap in and it took alot of control and light right foot action to make it round the corner!!
ZippyEFC 07 June 2004, 19:37 What car and spec? I cant wait now:D
scoobdoo 07 June 2004, 21:40 Type R Sti 5, full decat and panel filter, constantly going up and down the road at 140 while Bob was mapping was good fun!
ZippyEFC 07 June 2004, 23:54 Same car and spec as me:D
Fangoria 08 June 2004, 09:44 damn - missed this one
Only had car for about 5/6 weeks though - but would have loved to get for the much cheaper price!!!
Spenny_B 08 June 2004, 20:33 Fangoria damn - missed this one
Yeah, me too, and the other GB run by Terry Buckel...dag nammit. Oh well, wait till the next GB I guess.. :(
scoobdoo 08 June 2004, 21:19 Will be on the rollers in a couple of weeks I will post the results on here! The only regret I have is that I didnt do this 3 years ago!! I still cant get over the difference, its so bloody smooth and quick!! I love it!
Andy H 08 June 2004, 21:48 Got my 01wrx done on saturday afternoon after Scoobdoo (nice car by the way Tristan). What a diffrence it makes, especially 3 and 4th gear, the acceleration is fantastic now, had great fun on the way home. Dont know if it has effected the fuel economy yet as im having so much fun with my "new" car.
Will be on the rollers in July so will be able to see what diffrence it makes to the BHP and Torque, but is the best £600 i have spent on the car.
Andy H
Fangoria 09 June 2004, 12:57 damn!! - whens the next group buy on this??????????????????????
Scoobydrive 10 June 2004, 15:45 Fangoria,
You have private mail.
Fangoria 10 June 2004, 21:52 ScoobyDrive - have emailed you......... now as long as Bob has no probs!!
zhastaph 13 June 2004, 13:16 Tee hee hee :D
I had mine done yesterday afternoon.
The best description of the difference is that the car is nicer.
The power is much much smoother and more even up the rev range. It feels like the power comes in earlier, though it may be that it comes in quicker. And it certainly falls off later. For me it's most noticeable scrabbling out of corners, the power seems to be instantly there in the gear you're in without feeling the need to either change down a gear, or having to wait for the power to come in. The other noticeable gain is that higher gears lower down the rev range seem to pull much better and harder.
Oh and the annoying 3,000 rpm hesitation seems to have gone, though the car has only really been driven full bananas since it woz done so haven't had a real chance to see how it feels under 'normal' driving.
Couple of tips to the rest of you guys waiting to have yours done to help you get the best out of it;
If you are running an import with octane booster, and are having it remapped without it then be sure that the tank is completely clear of OB before the remap. Bob/Branko recommend running 3 full tanks of your chosen full prior to remap.
Make sure your car is 100% prior to taking it. They rejected the car of the guy after me because they weren't happy with the suspension. You had to feel for him :(, but on the other hand they do drive these cars at some speed and you'd have to feel comfortable with the car in order to do that.
Many thanks Bob/Branko and best of luck to the best of you :D
Bob Rawle 13 June 2004, 15:04 "rejected the car of the guy after me"
Actually not quite, he was requested to come back and drive it as opposed to Branko driving, early WRX Type RA with Link which came for remap after fitting Hybrid Intercooler, works well does that. Suspension was on the car as it was imported and was "skittish" and "interesting" but he was well used to it so not a problem, meant he didn't get any shopping done though !!
cheers
bob
Fitted my mods this weekend :), ready for the remap, I have no skin on my fingers and blood all over my tools (damn heatshield) but im sure it will be worth it.
I replaced the down cat pipe and back box, and screwed the lambda sensor back in the cat pipe, I was expecting the CEL to be illuminated but nothing, I thought you either had to get a cel fix or a remap to keep the CEL coming because of the cat error code ?.
cheers
Peter
p.s what was the traffic like round richmond last saturday ?
zhastaph 14 June 2004, 09:18 I'm not so sure about the CEL fix, I'm not really up on the new age cars, though I believe it is when you remove the CAT in the uppipe that you get a problem, be worth a quick post in technical to confirm ;)
As for the traffic, it was an absolutle dream, piece of Banana to get to. I've been through Richmond on weekdays and it is horrendous ......
RB5_IOM 14 June 2004, 14:33 I'm getting mine done on sat. First I need to fit my knocklink and boost gauge. Is this easy enough to do yourself??
Markyboy uk 14 June 2004, 15:06 The CEL WILL come on eventually if you fit decat downpipe on a newage. Mine came on after about 80 miles & a mates did after a few days.

CHRIS_D 14 June 2004, 15:47 is it necessary to fit a boost gauge for the remap. i have one sat on my desk as i havnt got round to fitting it yet.
RB5_IOM 14 June 2004, 16:49 I believe it's not essential for the remap, but highly recommended. Also fit a knocklink. I'm slowly getting round to fitting mine before sat.
zhastaph 14 June 2004, 18:27 I've just brought the car home from work, I just cant believe how good it feels :D
The 'go' out of corners is fantastic :D
I know I'm probably gonna regret saying this but the fuel economy isn't looking too tardy either ;)
