Take it in and get it fixed under warranty. Dont wait to see what will happen a few months down the road. As piston slap is an excessive clearance in the bore it can only get worse and expensive.

Do it! you know it makes sense. Your Scooby will be even better afterwards!

It sounds silly I know, but what are the effects of living with "piston slap" ? Does the engine eventually blow ? or at least get worse ?

I have a week left of the IM warranty and don't know if I want the car taken to bits, as it is running lovely (apart from the helicopter noise on start up).

Help - advice needed............

Cool

Took mine in a week before the warranty ended , had the clutch ( P1 bits fitted ), turbo ( replaced ) and slapper sorted. No warranty issues with dealer, car is so much better now !

geoffn,

I saw you had this done on a previous post. What dealer did you use ??

And did it run any better/worse afterwards ?

Oh and also what was wrong with the turbo ?

Questions,questions,questions !! ;D

Thumbs up

Daz,

I would say yes while it is covered under warranty.

It isn't terminal - as long as it goes away when hot it probably makes next to no difference to engine life expectancy but it niggled me so I had it done..

Cheers,

Alex

Daz 4 - I used Walldonway in Maidstone, they were first class, I am about to write to thank them. The turbo main bearing was on the way out I believe. It picks up much quicker now and is alot smoother generally, probably a result of all the work rather than just one item. Mail me if you want more.

Guys,

Thanks for your info. I was worried that it seemed a lot of work done to your car just to eliminate a noise that wasn't (as far as I was aware) terminal ?

Geoffn - It's interesting about the turbo bearing, I wonder if this is another fault on the MY98 or related in any way as mine doesn't seem to pick up quickly at times ? Although Walldonway is not my local dealers I may give them a call.
