This is what HID dipped beam looks like on JDM MY02 STi lights as fitted to my WRX:

Question

Does the STi8 Type UK have HID headlamps as standard? Doesn't say on Subaru UK site?

Cheers

Bugger - Cheers Phil

Considering one, but I have got so used to my Xenon's now and don't fancy aftermarket conversions.

Apparently they can be upgrade, but from what I hear its not cheap

I have read though that a lot of people recommend just upgrading the headlight bulbs in the Sti8.

To be honest I went from a car with HID headlights, to a car without HID headlights and while you can tell the difference it’s not all that bad.

I think the lighting on my car is fine... v-good on full beam!
Standard bulds, so would probably be much better with some phillips or OSram quality bulbs in.

Done aftermarket HID conversion on both dip and main on my STi7 and I'm very happy.

It's lots cheaper than OEM too because you don't have to have auto levelling (which always auto levels too low as well) and headlamp washers which you didn't want but EU legislation says you must have.

What have you got against after market?

Warranty for starters. You know what dealers are like. Can't see why they are not standard (or at least an option) on such a car.

Autolamps hid's (Phillips) are OEM fit for BMW/Merc/Audi I believe, the conversion kit is superb and can be self fitted in less than 2 hours, or done by an auto-electrician if you're not confident enough.

There were over 20 sets sold on SN in a group buy about 8 months ago, not one complaint.

I would never have a car without HID's now.

The warranty of the headlights will be affected. I'll live with that. Can't really see how anyone could legitimately claim that fitting HID's affects anything else so I'll risk it. Plus I could have them out and back to standard in an hour if I needed to claim.

ST AYE,

When my JDM STi7 came into the UK, the HID lights had to be removed and replaced with standard STi lights to get it through the SVA test.
I made sure they were put back in afterwards, as they are still legal for MOT's.

Some suppliers may "forget" to put them back in, given how much they are worth.

Definately a big improvement over the UK lights.

Question

David,

Which bit of the lights isn't liked by the SVA test yet presumably is OK to get through an MOT? Is it the fact that they don't have automatic levelling and washers on as EU OE HID systems are supposed to have AFAIK?

Thanks

Apple thanks now I know what I am missing.
I will be ordering mine in the next couple of days.

DR Motorsport mines a spec C, which unfortunately doesnt come with HID.
Seems crazy quickest Scoob = candles for headlamps.
