I phoned Forge for the first time this week to ask what sort of grease to use when servicing my VTA Dump Valve.

Talked to a guy called Duncan (I think) - the conversation went like this:

Me: "errr. I cleaned my dump valve - guess I should put some more grease back in it - what do you recommend?"

Forge: "Mobil-1's good - but it's expensive"

Me: "Thanks - I'll find some"

Forge: "Don't waste your money, we'll send you a service pack, you don't need much. Otherwise send us the valve and we'll service it the same day (for free) and return it to you."

Me: "That's really kind. I can service it myself - send me the grease!"

Forge: "OK, what sort of piston is it, we changed the design"

Me: "Err. it's plastic, or is it aluminium..hmmm it's blue - no it's black - I can't remember."

Forge: "Don't worry - we'll send you a piston anyway as well! Oh dear it's nearly 5pm probably missed the post today - promise it'll be in the post tomorrow!"

That was Thursday afternoon, it arrived this morning (Saturday) first class post!

I can only say I'm amazed at this approach to service - it's so rare.

Doesn't cost anything to be nice to the customer! but in my experience if your dealt with in this way you keep going back, good for the dealer!

Just phoned them myself about my D/V sounding a bit like a fart and they said the same. Send it back and they'll service it FOC and return the next day. I asked about a service kit (springs etc) and they try and get one out to me today. Good service hey ?
