Series would mean you would need to turn they key to the start (normaly starter motor would turn, this would now be open circuit as the start button is open) position and at the same time press your start button. the push start button is connected in Parallel across the start contacts of the ignition s/w, turn ignition on, press start button and off you go. :):)

where can I buy a start button? it is difficult to install it? I have a 2000 Impreza GT...

Not sure on Imprezas, but I've added a button on lots of older cars (R5GTT, Fiestas, etc).

You're just adding a switch in parallel with the switch in the ignition switch that controls the starter motor.

All you need is to find the wire from the ignition switch that goes to the starter motor (or more likely the ECU, these days). Add a relay that connects this to +12V. Connect one side the coil of the relay to ground, the other to your switch, and the other side of the switch to a switched +12V line(worth putting a 10A fuse inline with any +12V connections you make too).

Then you put your key in the ignition, turn it to pos 2 so the lights etc come on, then press the button.

(In the case of my R5, remember to take off the immobilisier, pull the choke up, press the throttle a few times, then press the button :))

I have a Richbrook Illuminated Pro-Start button that hasn't come out of the box. I dunno how much it would be to p&p it to Switzerland but you could have it for £30 + P&P if you like. Shouldn't be much more than £5 to send at a guess?

I used a stainless steel push to make switch, meant to be used as vandal-proof doorbell etc.

If I'm reading griffm's post correctly, having the start button in parallel across the start contacts means you turn key to position 2 (one posn after auxiliary) and press button (like in old racing cars / E-types etc AFAIK)

if you wire it in series, you have to turn the key to the normal start position (i.e. against the return spring) and press the button at the same time

whichever takes you fancy but you knackered if you've only got one arm if they're in series... ;):D

all you need then is the ecu tweak to make it crank over for a couple of revs before firing to give you that official race-car pose value ;)

can't remember which manufacturer (alfa / audi?) did this to a modern car to make it sound like you were "unleashing the beast" :D
