Just a cosmetic change to finish the car off.... i know you purists will mumble a little...... chill out !!
So what would this take to do on a MY02 Sport ??
Would i need a new bonnet or is it possble to have one fitted to the standard bonnet ?? what about the intake itself.... should that be blanked off as there is no turbo to feed ??
Any ideas on cost to do this..... just a thought at the moment as i really cannot make my mind up if this would spoil the appearance as at the end of the day it's a sport and not a WRX.

I'm guessing that it would be easier and cheaper to source a second hand Turbo bonnet.

 

Get one of those cool ones by Rob at MRO styling
Mine and Gareths (NWS) sports dont have the scoops blanked off - just cooler engines

 

By the way have to add mate - the car is looking really Sweet

naw mate leave it the way it is very sleek looking dont spoil it with a scoop

 

if you get a turbo bonnet - make sure you blank off the hole from underneath so you don't fill the top of the engine with general road crap

or you could stick a set of fins from an intercooler there to make it look kosher...

Leave it as it is and just tell your mates that you have a big turbo and a front-mount intercooler.

 

I also have a bug eyed sport but its a Japense import. I think they class it over there as an SRX. Its very similar to the WRX here but with the turbo and wearing a different set of rubbers!

I was also thinking of getting a scoop fitted to mine.. I found this company http://www.coollouvres.com/ who deal in fitting scoops etc. The guy quoted me £110 inc for the Scoop with mesh and to fit the scoop. He would also cut the bonnet to make the scoop functionaly plus glue and bolt the scoop down. The guy has been doing it for years so he should be pretty good! Your only real expense is getting the bonnet resprayed afterwards which will cost you from £120 to £250.

I'm still wondering on what to do.. I was thinking about getting a carbon fibre scoop to go with my carbon vents. That way it will look different to the other scoobs around!

I would be intrested to see the engine bay on your car to see how different it is to mine?

Also does anyone know where you can buy a carbon scoop from? I searched the forum a few weeks back and found a few links to some websites but they where asking around the £150 - £160 mark. I'm sure I did find a post that was selling them for £100. Problem is I cant find that post anymore!!!!!

Hey team is it possible to fit a scoop straight on the sport bonnet ???? i see there is a few for sale.
Got a funny feeling there is a recess in the turbo bonnet can someone clarify for me please.

yup, there is a recess as it allows the thickness of the base of the scoop to fit flush with the bonnet

also means you can't clean round it properly

it's approx 3 or 4 mm deep...

Some of the scoops the guy sells are horrendous! However he does do the Scooby Scoop with mesh. When I spoke to the guy he was a really friendly chap with lots of advice to offer.

I'm still playing around with getting a carbon fibre one and asking him to fit it for me... that we it will be functional!

 

I'm a purist.
Don't put a scoop on the car. For one it's non-functional - it'll just create more drag, unless you plan to use it suck air into the airbox.

2nd - it'll make the car look like a turbo, and people will want to race you/steal your bits because turbos are apparently have more streetcred/appeal.

IMHO I love my sport the way it is. Particularly when people think it's "only a sport" and then I blow by them with the boxer rumble.
Then they wonder if I've got a stealth FMIC.

When I phoned cool lourves the guy said to me why bother sticking a scooby scoop on the front of your sport, its like sticking an xr2i sticker on the back of a fiesta popular! He suggested having a look through the range of scoops he has and maybe going for something different, that way its individual and your not trying to make your car something its not!

I personal think a scoop would look good on the car. With out the scoop the car does look naked from the front! Just by looking at it you can see its missing something. I'm still up for a carbon fibre scoop, again its different to the normal scooby scoops! Plus making it in to a functional scoop will get around the drag issue and help with the induction kit etc. Each to their own though... but look at my scoob, its crying out for a scoop of some kind:

Well glynie, thats the problem when you get a bug sport!

The classic shape doesn't have the scoop-ready bit on top, so it looks just dandy without it. Although I have considered fitting some vents to aid cooling, but it'll probably make polishing more difficult.
