When I indicate in my k reg wrx, the indicators stay on and dont blink, anyone got any idea what this could be and how to resolve it please. It has only just today started happening.

It'll be the flasher relay. That's the bit that causes the indicators to flash, the column switch is just that: a switch.
My relay, on my '98 UK car was situated high up under the driver's side of the dash. I found it by removing fusebox, setting it flashing, and feeling the relays under there to find the one that was ticking.

But as yours isn't ticking, you'll have a problem.......
It MAY make one tick as you turn on the indicators: listen for it, then find it by having someone turn them on and off while you feel for the tick.
Failing that, a visit to an auto-electrics place may be in order.
