Followed one home tonight. Was going to blast past it but he took off at a fairly rapid pace so decided to pull in and follow him instead (all dual carriageways and islands).

I could have floored it and gone past but didnt want to drive like a tw&t so just followed his tail.

The think had quite an impressive turn of speed so I was just wondering what spec they are. It obviously had a non std zorst though and was also LHD.

Polo G40 actually... G60 was available on the golf and corrado. Unless he's transplanted the larger supercharger ??

Spec 1.3 litre supercharged
115BHP as standard - but easily chipped/pulleyed to 150+BHP with 150lbft torque...
weigh about 850kg - so hence the pace.

Used to have one - great in a straight line - absolutely awful stopping power (rear drums )

Must have been more than 115bhp as I had to keep the revs up around 5-6k to keep on his tail in my STi7.

Cool

I have one of these cars myself running at approximatly 150Bhp. They are great fun, as they can keep up, and sometimes beat a lot of higher power cars. I have come up against a few scoobys, and kept up a few times, but never overtaken!

I am looking around at the moment for an impreza to replace it

Hi Superrich - was sort of suspension are you running on it? I used to have a BR Motorsport demonstrator Polo with full Eibach/Sachs set up. Great little car.

It used to feature in the Brian Ricketts adverts in the VW press for a couple of years.

Harry_boy, I am using the standard suspension setup at the moment. I dont find it too bad, but 80% of G40 owners do change theirs. It's not too bad round most corners but at high speed, or accelerating you do get a bit if body roll!

Gastro - My G40 is on a K Plate, done just over 100000 miles. Its running very sweet at the moment and i regularly get over 35MPG.
It has a Stage 4 Jabbasport Supercharger, Jabbasport R1 Induction kit, Jabbasport 65MM Pulley + Ecu, Silicone 4 piece boost hoses, VAG Decat pipe, jetex full exhaust system, grooved disks, Ferodo DS2500 Pads. I service it myself every 4-5000 miles and keep it in very good nick. If you want any pics then email me on superich18@hotmail.com

I am not sure exactly when i will be selling it, but in the not too distant future

Hi Superich,

I've been out of VWs for a few years now - is BR Motorsport still around in Leamington Spa? Did I hear that they'd changed their name to widen their appeal?

not too sure if they are still around. What Polo did you have?
The main people for performance upgrade nowadays are Jabbasport, and pitstop developments (www.pitstopdevelopments.co.uk).

Yup - that's the one!!! Many a happy hour in that little monster, spent at 7,000 rpm...

Any idea who owns it now, and how I could get in touch with 'em?

Hi Superich,

It was a 1988 Polo Coupe S, with the full BRM treatment - ie hot cam, gasflowed, Sebring exhaust, Ronals, afrementioned suspension mods etc. Zender bodykit, all black - looked the dogs whatsits.

F23 VBD was the reg - interesting to know if it's still around anywhere...

Thumbs up

A great 'Q' car with VW reliability, leave it anywhere and it should still be there when you get back, unmolested. The car, not you that is.

i like 'em
